Subject: Love-Hate relationship...

...with this forum.
I want to say that I hate this forum because I love it.
There's so much information here that I cannot possibly read it all.
What am I rambling about?
Late last week it started raining in DC area..and it still is.
I noticed a "dark spot" on the carpet behind the driver's seat of the '76.
DAMN! OK, so the real seal of the sunroof was missing so I pulled into the garage and set out to remove the panel and replace the seal.
I search for "sunroof" and "drain tubes", etc and you all have posted so much valuable information and pictures that I spent more time reading it that I didn't get to spend as much repair time as I wanted.
No worries though, it's still raining, the fan is still blowing on the carpet.
I used my compressor to blow out the front tubes but can't find an exit for the rears.
I see some "goop" blocking the holes in the roof though. However, I'm a normal sized human and can't get my paws back in there.
I ran a piece of line from my weed-whip down the fronts and was hoping to do similar for the rear, starting from the exit though. However, I can't find the exit point.

Anyway..thank you all for writing and contributing!
I'll keep reading and will eventually get my water problem resolved!

If it's stock,

remove the back seat and the 2 side panels below the quarter windows.

They're silver, about 1/2" diameter. They just dump into the rockers.

Most people drill holes into the rear fenderwells and push the hoses through,
and then goo the seam really well.

Has worked on Jenn's car for the last 10 years.

rear wheel wells, be sure and shorten 'em and wire 'em up so they won't rub against the tire, especially when cornering. Otherwise you'll get this weird moaning sound piped up thru the tubes into the headliner right by your ear. Took me several months to figure this one out!

PS--I suspect your leak may be coming from somewhere else other than the sunroof...Check your door weatherstripping carefully; also check the acella cloth--plastic sheet under the door upholstery to make sure it's intact. Either can cause leakage where you describe.

good ideas. Thanks.
I've seen some pics and mods. I wil remove the rear seat this evening and see what's what.
BillWilliams and a couple others posted some nice pics. I'll do the same.
Mine is stock.
(it's suposed to be for my son who will be 16 this Summer. It's going to be tough handing it over. :-)

3:25 PM and it still hasn't stopped raining. Forget fixing the 02 -- I don't know about you, but I'm going to build an ark.

An ark?
Yeah..no kidding! But what's the magic combination of contortions that it takes to remove the inner, rear side panels? I closed one eye and crossed the toes on my left foot while breathing through my nose. :-)
I've removed the entire rear seat, 1 bolt and 2 screws..but how do the panels come out? I can't find any fasteners and they remain held fast.
The pic is the driver's side, facing back, inner rear panel with rear seat out.
Thanks.

well..not quite, but I got it out. For others, I have marked the clips holding it in place as well as the hose location.
So you are saying that the hose does not exit the body?
Water is just left to collect in the rockers?
Is is possible that the PO did some work and filled in the opening?
See that "patch"?
OK..other side looks the same. Unless BOTH sides were whacked and patched. :-)

FYI: the clips are intended to atach the chrome strip to the panel and they get clipped to the body in the locations shown.
Anyway, I'm getting there. Now back to the archives to see what the alternatives are. Thanks for the support. I hope these pics prove to be of some value to someone else.

Subject: The Rear Sunroof Drain Tubes do drain into the rockers...

but originally the rockers had (and may still have) tiny drains on their back sides--you have to crawl under the car and look back at the reverse side of the rockers to see 'em. Problem is they're so small they clogg with crud pretty early in the car's life, so water just accumulates until the rockers rust out and make their own drain holes.

And the "patches" you note are just sound deadening panels to keep those relatively large pieces of flat sheet metal from drumming or vibrating--same as you'll find inside your doors, on the floor and under the headliner.

When you reroute the drain tubes, don't forget to seal around the passthru holes real good.

cheers
mike
