If so, how do you like it? I've been thinking about getting one before the movers come pack my stuff up to Alaska. If I get it, I really don't want to have to pay for any shipping.

I talked to a friend a few years ago that had one and loved it, but I'm looking for more opinions...

Danke,

TK

I opted for an authentic Kamado. I love it. I only went for the real Kamado because, as those who know me know, I generally don't want what everyone else has - I want something different. Lots of people have the Big Green Egg -- and I've heard nothing but positive things about it. I just wanted something different - thus,

The food tastes great. It's quite a production to get everything smoking, but that's part of the fun. Note - the Kamado comes in a gas unit. But I can't figure out the point - if you're going to egg it, you have to egg it right. That means using red-hot smoking combustables.

It's the most awesome grill out there. I advise paying the extra $$ for the biggest one you can get. I have the medium one and am wishing I had some extra room all the time (so I have 2 weber regular grills on the side). It uses very little coal and retains heat VERY well. It's a charcoal grill with the temperature control of an oven or gas grill. Plan to cook things slow and long (that's where it is sooo good), but you can pump up the temp and cook/sear stuff too. You can smoke on it, but don't have to (smoking EVERYTHING just gets old). It IS pretty damn expensive though I have to admit. I am very very glad I have one. Oh yeah, get the fancy lid too.

Eric's friend Rob (since he was sitting next to me and has one)

I've got one too. Thing is amazing. Go big. My medium is too small, but things cook like a professional was doing it! Smokes well too.

I went and looked at it this afternoon. I think I'll be driving home with it tomorrow...

Well, I went out and got one the other day. Today I busted it's cherry, fired it up and blazed up a couple of ribeyes. OMFG. Soooooo much better than the lowes propane grill I've been using for the last 5 years.
I'm going to sloooo cook some ribs tomorrow. It's going to take some playing to get used to the temp/vents, but I have time.
