The driver seat on my 2002 rocks back and forth and it appears all this action is between the upper and lower seat track rails. Are there normaly captured ball bearings or rollers between the upper and lower rails and maybe mine have fallen out? Very odd that both rails exhibit this problem. Passenger seat is fine.

no bearings.Check to see if the sheet metal supports under the seat tracks may be cracked or fatigued or if the mounting bolts are loose/missing.

Not aware of any ball bearings (unless you have a cutlery drawer under the seat).

Do yourself a favor. Its four bolts to remove the entire seat assembly. Take the seat out and examine the prehistoric design. You may find missing fasteners, loose change or even that long lost key fob. Clean the rail assemblies and you may find the rails are fatigued or more likely they are not securely fastened to the seat itself. Regrease.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but its my best guess.

P.S.: I claim the bulk of the loose change you find!

Actually, rollers on the cars I've worked on.

One in front, one in the back, and the 'dimples' in the track
were supposed to keep them in place.

They ran in the channel in the middle...

Mine did the same thing. If I recall I removed the seat and slightly bent the rail so that it ran flatter in the channel. This was on the left side only on my seat. I think if you remove the seat you will see the problem better. I did this probably 4 years ago and it has been tight ever since.

Thanks. You can't have any loose change but you are more than welcome to all the mouse droppings I find...man this car stinks!
