Have you seen the new GTI's out on the road and thought to yourself, "well there's a good looking car". Maybe read some of the car mag articles talking about how great the power and handling is in the new GTI. Well now you've got a chance to own one in immaculate condition. I'm looking to ditch my daily driver now that I've got a company car to drive along with a backup commuter. I'd like to start a full on racecar project and am looking for a base 2002 to start out with. So if you're in search a fuel efficient modern commuter with a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty and looking to offload your old 2002, running or not let me know. Book on my car is in the 19-20k range. Will send pictures to those that are interested.
Entirely stock, unmodified
2.0 Liter Turbo FSi motor (achieved up to 39mpg)
6 speed manual transmission
Plaid cloth interior w/ sunroof and premium stereo
Comes with 18" wheels with Sport Contact2's and 16" wheels with all seasons
24k miles
All service done by Carter VW in Ballard
Never smoked in, ate in, or even water drank in (Seriously would not allow people to bring anything inside this car)
Reflex Silver in color

Wow you've got a lot of nice looking 2002's down there, too bad you're not located closer. I'm in Seattle.

Just in case you might be interested in a completed car. Not mine, no affiliation...

I have a 1972 BMW 2002 that is running with duel side draft webers. 45 dcoe.
I am located in northern california. It has a big brake upgrade in the front, roll cage in the back, also has konig racing seats with four point seat belts. This car was meant to race. It would be a good project. 25mm sway bars in the front and 23mm in the back. Oh and it has sport bilsteins with 15 inch bbs. I will send pics for pics. Call me or email me at drummerbro44@yahoo.com or 530 306 1591. I am looking forward to talking to you. Are you looking to trade straight across or a partial cash with car?

Chris

Well, I'm pretty far away but I may be willing to arrange and front for shipping for a good trade. I've got a '75 2002 with fender flares, a lowered suspension, and a Korman stage II motor with the Korman 300 degree camshaft, and a Volvo big brake kit in the front. Not yet fully race ready, but already along the way. Would still need urethane bushings throughout, a limited slip differential, and roll bars. It has a 38/38 on it right now which I think is good for SCCA but you'd probably want something else. I have dual 40 sidedrafts on another car, but for an all out racer you might need 45s. Not sure if you'd be interested but figured I'd drop you a reply just in case.

I guess I should clarify. I'm looking for a cheap, basic, pretty much un-modified 2002 so that I can start building up a fully log booked car on my own. Like I said I'm looking to downsize cost wise, so I'm looking for somebody who might be in the market for a newer car, and taking a 2002 as partial trade with cash on top of the deal to make up the difference. Sorry about not being clear enough in the start:)

Not to rain on your parade, but I had a 07 GTI in United Grey with Plaid interior, moonroof, sirius, and the ground effect package...It never got above 27 mpg. I bought it new with 9 miles on it (7 of which I put on it during the test drive) and got rid of it at 20K miles.

I thought I saw over in the parts section there was someone in Seattle that had a free shell.

try scanning there. Also what is your price range? Are you willing to get a rust bucket and do the repairs or are you wanting a clean body. This will help everyone so they know exactly what you are looking for.

I average 28mpg with city driving... no idea how your best was 27. I drive the car really easy, 39mpg was freeway driving seattle to portland, done it multiple times since my dad lives down there, always got above 35mpg, I just stayed in the 60mph range when the speed limit kicks up to 70 instead of pushing 75mph like everybody else does. (the 35mpg tanks were when I went half the trip at 60 half at 70) I'm not looking for a total rust bucket but anything with a little rust I'm willing to tackle. Motor doesn't have to be running but I would like something with a complete drivetrain. Interior doesn't matter much, no cancer on the shock towers, surface rust, floor pans, that's all easily treatable. Book on my car is like 20500(NADA), I'm not expecting to get that since these things start at like 22k brand new. (The rabbit and GTI's have held their value really well) so in the 19,000 dollar range is what I'm looking for, considering it's got an extended warranty from 3 years 36k miles to 7 years 100k miles.
