Subject: Track Car

Greetings to you all

My first car was a bmw 318is , i moved to 328i , then 330ci now i'm thinking og going the clasic way , i'm interested in buying the 2002 bmw , as a project car , I have a few questions

Can the engine be upgraded, how many HP can i get out of it , if i do not go the FI rout , if i cant find a 2002 tii , can the 2002 regular 2 door be turbo charged , is it easy to find the parts for it ,

I would appreciate any feed back , i always had a dream of restoring an old bmw , and taking it to the track .

Thank You

Tamer

You can do all of the above with enough time, labor and money.

In my opinion you would be better suited to keep a 318is as a track car since you don't really want an 02 for what it can do with its base M10 motor.

That said, you could:

1. get a used Tii motor and hop it up.
2. take a NA M10 motor and work it up through stages1, 2 and 3
3. take a NA M10 motor after #2 and supercharge or turbo charge
4. get an M3 S14 motor and chip it (optionally)
5. get an M20 motor from an E30 and gain 2 extra cylinders

Or, make a hybrid M10 with 320/318 parts and do MegaSquirt which is probably best suited for someone like you. Lots of guys on the board here have done it.

Heck, there are guys attempting rotary installs and even Nissan engine transplants.

Good luck.

Thank You for your reply i have sold the 318is , e36 i only have now the 330ci e46 , I will never put a non bmw motor in a bmw vehical it is not ethical as i see it, i'm interested in building the car if i can reach 150, 160 HP it will be great but my main interest is to restore the car , My info is weak about the motor of this car , is it a the M10 motor , and the chassi is it E12 or E8. I will probably rebuild the motor without going through the FI

Thank You

Yep good project car but please make sure you have a daily driver otherwise you will end up like me just rushing it and not doing it properly!

Correct - M10 motor
I believe they called the 2002 the E10 and the Turbo the E20 (from what i've read).
