Subject: Metric Mechanic 5-speed kit question

I was mocking up my MM 5-speed on my transmission this weekend, and the shift linkage doesn't seem to look right. On the selector shaft to the linkage, there seems to be a lot of extra space on the shaft. See pic below:

Is this normal? Am I missing some bushings or something?

If anyone else has this kit and can shed some light on it, I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks in advance

Hi,
i have installed many of these sets
for customers. you are in fact missing
a bushing that goes on the shaft.
when i got them they were always
loose in the packing and not yellow-
chromate coated, just plain mild
steel, about the outside diameter
of a 13mm socket.
look around and then call them about
the piece.
good luck
stone

Thanks Stone, any chance you can let me know which side of the shaft the bushing is supposed to go on? I got this kit used and just got the parts back from replating, which is why it looks new.

I may have to source a replacement, can't recall if i saw a bushing in the box I was given. Any chance someone with a MM 5-speed kit handy can check some dimensions for me, or possibly show me a pic? Doesn't Harv have one of these kits as well?

[Edit] after looking on MM's website, they mention the shifter being set off-center by 10mm. Chances are i'm looking for a bushing that fits the shaft and is 10mm wide, that would go on the inside of the shift lever (to the right in the pic above)

Is it not possible just to send MM an email, explain your problem, and ask them to sell you just the bushing kit?

Here's a pic of mine. I had installed one back around 2001/2002 on my Tii.

Just give Jim Rowe a call. He's a pleasure to speak with and very knowledgeable. They'll get you what you need. He'll more than help you out. He took care of my very well back then and we even BS'ed about all sorts of stuff on the phone for hours sometimes.

Having never worked with them before, I wasn't aware how much they could assist me since I bought the product second hand. I know that some places don't sell partials of any kits, and besides, you guys on the FAQ are just as good a resource!

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll be calling MM and seeing if they can sell me just the one bushing.
