It didn't take me very long but some of the things I already had done, ie battery moved to the trunk, hard fuel lines ran, feed and return.
I had also did a lot of research to figure out the wiring before starting it. But from the point of pulling the old engine to driving it out of the exhuast shop it was about 5 weeks. I could have done it quicker but I was waiting on parts.
As for cost...
I got a nice deal on the engine, trans, ecu, wiring, afm, etc etc - $300
rad - $125 - NEW
electric fan - had it
ebay m50 turbo manifold with some adjustment - $140
mounts - $25..... (this winter I plan to pull the mounts and make a jig to make more of them)
trans mount (from a 318is e30) - $15
custom driveshaft - $500....everything is new
As you can see the most expensive part was the drive shaft. I could have probally done that part myself too...but I didn't want to deal with it and I wanted everything new. So I had one shortened from IE and it was fully rebuilt. Made things a lot easier.
There were more items here and there but all in all it wasn't that much cost wise.
Exhuast was in the $250 range for the mufflers and the labor for a shop to do it. Again something I could have done myself but it is just so much nicer to have that part done.
I am really happy with the swap. There are still a few things to finish up, but it is very drivable and I am happy with how it is balanced. It feels like the m10 but with more power and really smooth power.
I just got some new tires for it....falkin alzenas....and boy is it fun.
Next up is volvo front breaks and VW rear discs. I have everything I need for both swaps I just need to find some time.
