Subject: lieberman-warner or another wrinkle for 'global warming'

the forum search shows that this u.s. senate tax initiative, sponsored by the named senators, has not been discussed on this board. i find this incredible, after all the posts on the general subject. are we all that ignorant,or just unwilling to debate a climate change topic of actual value?

i first heard of it today, from my aunt asking me to sign a petition.my web research led me to blogs as extremist as any posts here. i am flabbergasted to learn that the official democratic plank of 2008 elections is a reduction of 80% from 1990 levels of the so-called green house gas emissions by 2050, and that is considered a bare minimum by the hard liners. and that the hard line consensus is a hard cap on emission levels immediately.

leiberman-warner is castigated for only wanting a 60% reducton, and other reasons.

so, you faq'rs, how say ye? oppose for not strong enough, support or oppose for the economic consequences?

Don't know about the above legislation, but the law of unintended consequences works with tree huggers too.

reduce CO2 emmissions, to focus on one man made gas. to reduce CO2 to proposed levels dooms 3rd world economies to permanent poverty as they would be unable to build coal/natural gas powered electric generation facilities. never mind there is no eveidence CO2 has anything to do with climate change, it's the hammer these misguided fools use to club us all over the head to effect political change.
paradoxically, the same policies encourage deforestation for heat/power. so the tree huggers are in a double bind.
the CO2 argument has got to be the biggest boondogle ever effected on a population unwilling to look at scientific facts. effing unbelievable.
