Subject: 74 complete restoration and custom work.

Previously posted under different section by mistake and should have been here instead.

This process took nearly a year with my 74' 02 since the inception. It was previously painted with BMW color E36 Estoril Blue originally Malagra. Although, this is not full restorations by any means. The 02 somewhat kept most of its originality but tastefully performed some custom work outside the ralm of BMW fanatics, which you will see in the attached pictures.
The list:
Suspensions: Complete Ireland Engineering, including front and rear sway bars.
Engine: Port and polish head, block, new cam, 38/38 Weber carb.
Exhaust: Stahl header, Super Sprint exhaust
Transmission: 320i five speed Getrag conversion with short shifter
Front and rear shortening bumpers
Replaced all seals, gaskets, headliner, carpets, Re-dyed seats plus many other parts have been replaced.
AC and side moldings are removed
Team Motorsport 15" wheels and Dunlop tires
Custom work includes: Center console, instrument cluster, engine start, door panels, Dynamats doors, rear sides and floorboard. Adds weight but solid ride.
So how does she drive? Wonderful!!!!!
After having driven 250 miles today, brief cruising speed of 80, 90 and 100 MPH were a joy. It is simply fantastic!.
Next steps are to replace the rear drum brakes, larger rotors and calipers for front then re-chrome F/R bumpers.
All engine work were done by German Motorwerks in Winter Springs Florida (The most reputable people i have ever met, who knows BMW inside and out, bar none), others were done my myself and a talented friend.
Tks.

Thanks. Thinking about loosing the front bumper in place of Ireland Engineering front spoiler.

Thanks. Still need to add a subwoofer yet. When she sits still it sounds great, but when moving it drowns out most of the bass.

Hey Quietracer,

I am very impressed with what you done, how did you develop the push start set up on your ignition system. I would like to do the same.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Justin

Hi,
Go to http://www.ignitedperformance.com/
to order the start button.
To wire it you would come off the TRUE ignition before starter wire connect to relay then from relay to start button and 12v constant. From the start button to starter engine. Don't forget to ground the relay as well as the starter button. If you want i can fax diagram to you.

Ross
ps. Was thinking about replacing diff with TC design..is there a web site?

Electrical work is my biggest weakness and my greatest fear.

Thanks for the response.

All work except paint job were done by myself and a co worker who experienced has been with mobile installations. Since the post and from driving the vehicle around town, he has been busy receiving calls quoting similar jobs...The whole project took about a year..I can have him contact you if you wish.
I've known Jim and Debra at German Motorwerks for about 5 years...they have been servicing all my cars...great people.
Tks,
Ross

ps. I heard the story from jim about your wheels. I told him not to show them to me in case I liked them. From the looks of it there will probably be at least three of us in central Fl with them.

As you know restorations or any custom projects will require LOTS of time and MULA. Good luck and keep in touch.

Subject: 74 restoration and custom work. Instrument Cluster Faceplate

Ross,

Do you have a drawing on the instrument cluster face plate? Is it SS or Aluminum? I had thought about doing the very same thing because of the amount of black interior bits in my car. I'd like for the faceplate to match the heater controls.

Todd,
I do not. We were using ABS plastic with aluminum look because it was much easier to cut and it came out perfect.
