Subject: Reverse Lights always on. . .???? and other small things

Well,

I've been working on correcting a few problem areas today w/ the lights. There were no reverse lights working nor was a rear driving light working. After checking the fuses and making sure none were blown, I took apart the rear light assembly and found out there were no bulbs!

I went and got new bulbs and now the reverse lights are on when the ignition is on and also while the car is running. . .?? I guess this is a wiring problem? All of the other bulbs work correct now. . Thank goodness for something.

Also, I added a bit of distilled h2o and Prestone and the car seems to be running cooler now. . . about 175-180 degF. I just have to work on the hood tension spring (on backwards? the hood won't stay open) and the door lock cylinders. . .can I get these anywhere??

Ah, the joys of spending a rainy Saturday working on my new toy. . .I can't think of another thing I would rather be doing except DRIVING!

You may have a bad reverse switch.

I had the same problem with the reverse lights always staying on - went and looked at the switch on the transmission and the two prongs were touching - I separated them and it solved that problem - you might want to check that -

Thanks for the info. Where on the transmission is the switch located and how easy is it to access? Obviously, I'm new to the 02 and need all of the information I can get.

It's been a couple of weeks since I was under there - but you can't miss it - look at the back of the transmission and there's only the two wires that go to the switch - the switch has two prongs sticking up (or out?) with connectors on them - on mine the connectors had been pushed together to where they touched - I just took a screwdriver and pried them apart and it solved the problem -

I had read in an archive post that if the terminals touch they would cause the light to stay on so that's the first thing I looked at and sure enough - that was it -- hope this helps - Mike

Subject: Door lock cylinders....whatcha trying to do with 'em?

If they're stuck, you should be able to free 'em up with some Kroil, NutBuster etc. May not even have to remove the handles from the car. If they're not keyed to the ign, there are a bunch of archive posts on how to do that; it's not a difficult process once you remove the handles.

If they're broken, post on the parts board for working ones, then re-key as above.

cheers
