Subject: My 74 2002 Project

Awhile ago Pinepig told me I should start a project log for my 2002 so I figured I finally start one :)

I bought my 74 2002 about 3 months ago $300.00 It has a good body but the interior needed work and the engine blew more smoke then the station wagon in the movie "Uncle Buck". Oh and it was also an automatic.

The first thing I did was swap in a good running motor and 4spd from a 71 2002 beater (had a ton of body damage but the engine and trans were great)

The engine has side draft webers, Schrick cam, IE Step Header, full exhaust, lightened flywheel and a few other goodies

I also picked up a 5spd that I plan to swap in once I finish all the suspension :)

Here's a pic when I first got it (I removed the bumpers and side trim)

The next thing I started on was the interior. The door cards where really bad towards the bottom and there were holes cut in them for speakers. I decided to dye them black and put black carpet on the bottom of them to make them look new again.

Before...

After...

Pinepig fixed a rust hole in the drivers side floor for me and then I installed new black carpet, momo steering wheel I got off ebay and my friend Lenard made me a 4 point roll bar. It came out really nice. The last thing I needed was some seats because the old ones where shot. I saw that Kragen Auto Parts sold black bucket seats with brackets for $99 each so I decided to give them a try and I couldn't be happier. I also picked up one of those old school rally rear view mirrors off of ebay for $15.00 (has 5 mirrors)

Yup, filling all the trim holes along with the holes from the side markers. Then adding turbo flares and the turbo air dam :) Once I finish all the body work I'll either paint the whole car satin black with gold rims or satin black from the chrome trim up and Laguna blue from the chrome trim down.

All the holes are filled and I added fender mirrors. Oh I also painted the wheels bronze. Can wait to get the flares on and the body all blocked out!

I got them off ebay. They work great. People either love them or hate them. I like them. Just wish my flares would get here

I decided to go with Drag DR-20 15x7's with a +10 offset and Falken Azenis RT-615 205/50 15's

The handling is so much better now. I just need to finish the suspension and finish the body work so I can paint it!
