Subject: Couple of engine questions

I'm looking for a replacement engine for my ' 75 automatic. Does anyone have contact info for the guy who builds nice'02 engines, I believe in up-state New York? Name might be Kermit, I just don't know for sure. Also, has anyone had dealings, good or bad, with Bavarian Auto Recycling in Rancho Cordova, CA?

Thanks for any info, or other leads that would help me get a replacement engine.

Heh heh..

You're looking for Eric Kerman. He's up in Long Island. Normally I wouldn't just post someone's email address but he publicly displays it on CCA sites, etc. and it is shared among Bimmerheads so I know it's ok.

Eric Kerman's been around for a LONG time and build good motors. Period. He rebuilt a motor for my 76 back in the 90's and he rebuilt my 72Tii's engine. Top notch.

Also check out MetricMechanic.com. There seems to be a few happy customers in this forum.

Yeah, JP at A1 mentioned MetricMechanics as one he would use send my tranny for rebuilding. Not saying that he endorses them, but that's who he mentioned in our talks so I think it's safe to say they're a good company by most accounts.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It appears I'm going to have Eric Kerman build me an engine. In his day job he rebuilds Vintage racing car engines. Just finished a 10 liter/600 cu.in. engine for a CanAm McClaren race car and is currently working on a 312P Ferrari race car engine (only two were ever built). I'll post some impressions of the results in the future.

Thanks again,

Bob Napier

Bob,

Yes, you'll find all sorts of cool toys he works on at his place. Here's some shots of me at his place back around 2002 working on my Tii motor.

Eric Kerman is a great way to go.
The guy you were thinking of is Kermit Uptin In Vt. He's a BMW specialist and has a decent rep from what I remember.

My motor stuff came from Kerman.

before I sent my engine cross-country. It's a lot closer to home and some of those guys really know what they are doing. From what I've read, Bill Holmes, Rob Torres, Jack Fahuna, Rick Hanner, etc. etc. could do exactly what you want..............................just a thought.
