Subject: Running e21 diff & Tarms on 02 subframe

will it work if we plug e21 diff, trailing arms and CV's onto a 2002 subframe? Wondering about spacing...

I suppose to answer that I should compare the distances of the inner trailing arm mount tabs.

This weekend I'd like to get a rear subframe mocked up - will I run into any trouble? This is going on ToddK's race car so if anything we WANT the extra track width that we'll gain from the e21 trailing arms. Any other words of advice?

Thanks,
Tom

It works.

You need to make a decision- early E21 or late. The 2 don't cross.

If you go early, you need the early E21 stubs and diff, and you can use
the 2002 cv shafts, as they're the same length.

If you go late, you have to use all 80- 83 parts, as the cv's tuck inside
the redesigned hubs and stubs.

Perversely, the later stuff is both bigger and lighter- so I went that route.
Whether it's much stronger, I dunno.

That's the short version...

Do you know if they widen the 02 track and if so roughly by how much? Anybody know if e21 stub axles are any stronger? If they're the same for all models then I'd assume BMW made them beefier for the torque of the 2.3 m20.
