Subject: Turbo rear end

Matt has posted some more photos on his www.sport-car-restoration.com site of the turbo. One shot you may find of interest is #25. It shows how the turbos back end was strengthened in the wheel arch area. Other than this wheel arch bracing the turbo is the same as other '02 models.

I think the 2002turbo body shell is as all other big bumper/square
tail light generation - which is to say reinforcements in the trunk and under floor to support higher impact / crumple at front and rear impacts -
2002, 2002tii, 2002turbo all the same shell.

(Matt's link is not working)

this is from 2002turbo.nl site

note the reinforcements under the trunk floor which saddle the diff area
they are not present on round tail light bodies - pre-big-crashing-bumper
shells - as pictured below

Those are cool photos for sure.. but when you posted them the other day, I thought that two of the underbody pics did not appear to be 2002 floor pans.

Don't all 02 have the same frame rails for the front subframe attachment?
These top two pics show much longer frame rails, and the floor stampings look way different than any 2002 I can remember.

What car floors are pictured in the top row of pics?

The worst part about the reinforced rear of the late cars is the double wall on back half of the quarter panel for the USA model. That adds a ton of weight, and the glue they bond it with can come undone.

Hey CD those braces under the turbo were a sort of an interim stiffening done on all 73 cars-euro and US hence their presence on the turbo shell. THe euro cars of squarie variety also have the basic trunk of the pre 74 us cars.... Matt

You can see the paint for the subframe we had made. It matches the paint on my turbo

Hope to have it in the paint booth this week Matt

bottom left is definitely a Touring and the top ones are definitely not an 02! The Touring shell shows quite clearly the reinforcement between the shock towers that raises the boot floor quite considerably. Coupled with a lower roof line and shorter tail it's surprising how much smaller a Touring boot is before you drop the rear seats (compared with a saloon).
