Subject: 75 Megasquirt conversion.

Greetings all, I've been taking a bunch of pictures of my project, but am finally getting around to posting some of what I've done. I currently have the MS up and running well with the EDIS. I want to get to know the MS/EDIS system just a bit better before I continue with the injection portion.

Many thanks to the guys at:
finkbuilt.com
zeebuck.com
and Tim Skwiot (http://www.hbci.com/~tskwiot/2002.html) for the great online write-ups that they did with their megasquirts.
Also, big props to the guys at DIYautotune. Nothing but great service.

If you are looking into a MS conversion, read through these sites after you finish reading the Megamanual. Nothing but good info and helpful pics.

And also thanks to everyone else that answered some of my MS questions either here or via email...

Here's the relay board laid out, you can see how well it's been packaged. Everything from DIY is like that.

The cramped/kneeling splicing of the wires was pretty tedious. I mounted the EDIS module to the face of the heater box with adhesive backed velcro. I put some velcro on a spare module and keep it under the seat. The relay bank is off the front fender of a parts car from a fellow FAQ'r (thanks again Jon).
The first 2 relays are both driving all of the switched ignition of the terminal strip. The third relay is switched on from the fuel pump terminal of the MS board and is switching on the fuel pump and the 02 sensor.

From what I've read, it's not good to have the 02 sensor on without the car running. If you wire it up with the fuel pump, it's not powered on unless the car is running and providing a tach signal.

Both the MS and the 02 install guides say it's real important for them to have a common ground. There wasn't a good one under the dash that i liked so I made my own. I just took a piece of flatstock, drilled some holes and ran some small bolts through t

very nice, my 74 has a megasquirt in it with injectors, i have to figure it all out still, was my late best friends car. I might be asking you a few questions about it.

Two questions, 12pt terminal strip, is that for power? I like the idea of that, but I don't quite grasp the purpose.

Also, what's with all the 02ers putting the MS unit AND the relay board in the glove box, I thought the whole purpose (and what megasquirt instructions seem to point out a lot) was to put the relay in the engine bay.

Anyway, good luck, my project is going a lot slower than I planned due to electronics being one of my poor subject areas (good thing I decided to do this project huh ;) ), and not having a ton of time

Hi Bryan,
the terminal strip wouldn't really be necessary, but it does clean a lot of wiring up nicely. The top half of the strip is constant battery power coming right off of the starter and supplying the 3 orange relays in the glovebox. The first 2 orange relays are ignition switched on and supply the lower half of the terminal strip which is for everything that comes on with the ignition:
MS, LC1, power inverter for the laptop, stereo....
The white terminals are jumpered together and are the 12V switched ignition that triggers the relays and will trigger the stereo and amps.
The last orange relay is switched on from the MS fuel pump signal, and that powers both the fuel pump and the 02 sensor. This relay gets shut off after 3 seconds with no tach signal, so if you're just playing with the electrics, your 02 sensor won't be sitting there burning away.

True, the relay board is designed to be underhood, but it's just a nice convenient place to keep everything.
