Subject: How to prime carbs when you replace fuel lines, etc.

1974, 2002, manual trans. Added weber 40DCOE's just now trying to get the thing to run.

So if you replace your fuel supply line from the tank to the fuel pump, how long does (should) it take for the fuel pump to suck up some gas?

I'm using a mechanical fuel pump, part number 13 31 1 260 677 with a push rod #13 31 1 255 727

I'm also using the original isolation block (not sure what it is called), but the one I'm using is the stock one that was used with the old original fuel pump. It seems to me the block needs to be shorter, but I'm not sure. The one I am using is about 3/4" deep. It's the brownish plastic like thing that is between the base of the fuel pump and the engine.

So there are 2 questions.

1) Assuming fuel pump is working as it should, how long should it take to suck gas out of the tank with a new (empty) fuel line from tank to fuel pump.
2) Is the isolation (spacer) or whatever that mounting thing is on the fuel pump the right size??? See photo.

Thanks,

Len
