Subject: She's been around a few times....

Last year I sold my 69 1600 that I had received from Chris Webber. Chris had made some nice mods such as sigle line Brembo brakes and 320i rear brakes. I added a full ireland coil over suspention, stahl header and straight pipe exhaust, dual 40 solexes. It was a great introduction to auto-x last year. However the dual sidedraft solexes never ran good, no matter how much I fiddled with them, and the open long neck diff kept me from putting down what little power I actually had. During the last auto-x, she started to smoke on the way home. A fellow from Sac decided he's like to take over, so I managed to escape and recooped my investment in Ireland products.

Enter my friend Ethan Turner. He had a 68 2002 that had been sitting around for a while. Apprently it was traded a few times in the Bay Area before he got it. Did this car once belong to you? Do you know whose car this was?

The car came with some nice mods when I bought it from Ethan. 76 block, e12 head, 9.5:1 pistons, dual mikunis, custom air cleaner, tii struts with e12 brakes, 320i rear brakes, turbo radiator, stahl header, electric fuel pump.

I added Ireland coil overs onto the tii strut housings, 400 lb springs, ireland front and rear sway bars, I rebuilt a pair of tii swing arms with 320i brakes, ireland adjustable swing arm eccentrics, ireland poly bushings throughout, 3.9 LSD, 320i Five speed, custom short shift kit, 7 lb flywheel, new clutch and bearings, poly tranny mount and engine mounts. New recaro seats with custom off set seat mount. Momo racing wheel and knob.

Ethan made up a strut brace for me and we also have been reinforcing parts of the frame and body with braces. Some parts have been removed for weight savings.

The goal was to have the car done for auto-x this year, but we've missed three events so far. (Drove the M42 powered e30 cabrio instead.) Just haven't had the time to work on the car. I am very busy with my work (I'm a loan consultant; I sell discounted commission home loans and refinances.) I am still wrestling with the tranny install this past weekend.

Things still left to do:

Bleed the brakes,
4 wheel alignment
oil temp and pressure guages
roll cage needs to be ground down and welded in.
install brake proportioning valve

Oh, and paint!

I hope to have this car done in the next month or so. I am really itching to drive it.

It is a little difficult to post pics here, so I have posted pics at this site:

Dude! where did you get that rear strut brace? I've been looking for one like that for a while, yours is the second one I've ever seen... Any details?

I thought you had one of the old Stiffywerks braces, the kind that don't require drilling into the shock towers... last I has heard they haven't been available since 2003 or so.

By the way, that intake rocks. Was it like that when you got the car, or did you come up with the idea?

Oh yeah, that's true. The TEP brace is an almost exact duplicate of the SW brace 'cept for that fact.

I will sell you the SW brace if you want. I want the TEP front brace. Buy me the pair from TEP $389 I believe and I'll give up the SW gladly! :)

The intake was made by Ethan Turner. He's a skillful fabricator.
