Subject: Project m2 touring

Hi am a new member and i thought i would tell you all about my project

I got this car about 3 years ago and have been slowly getting all the parts I need to get it back on the road atfter the head gasket went on me . this was the last time and only time that i drove the car . I was driving the car back to my house after getting an exhaust made for it, when sitting in traffic on a hot day the relay on the electric fan went .

I was only 5 miles from my house and this was after driving for about 230 miles . You could say I was not pleased.....so near but so far

So far it has taken me all this time to get the money together to get the parts that i want and need

a bit of info about the car....

1972 2002 touring fitted with a evo2 s14. I will be using a emerald ECU.
it has been fitted with a 5 speed box from a e21.
Suspension wise, it has been fited with coilovers all round and anti roll bars. The brakes on the front are standerd but the person i got the car off did a disc conversion on the back using vauxhall cavalier discs and renault 25 calipers. For the wheels i will be fitting 13x7 on the front with 185/60/13 tyes and on the back 13x8 with 205/60/13 . these will be covered with a body kit that i got . They arre soposed to go on a mk2 escort but as they are aliuminium they are esay to bend to the shape of the car.

Thanks for reading. Harry

This sounds really interesting. Get some pics up asap! Are the flares just like a lip flare?

I have got the last bits for the engine on order and they should be with me by the weekend, I have a new timing chain and oil pump chain coming and like i said i hope thay are with me by the weekend so i can start puting the engine back in the car

i wont to get the engine placed as far back as pos so i will have to look into this this and see what is the best way

then i hope to sort out the rad , i will have to look and see how other members have done this . i wont to get the biggest rad that i can in there
as i have futre plans for the s14 .

am slowley working througt a big list of things that i need and wont to do to get the car back on the road but it just gets bigger and bigger

thanks for the replys and i will keep you all up to speed on the project , i have a feeling its going to be a long one

Sounds like you have a lot of work there.

I`m also part way through a rebuild and have gone with an ex BTCC 2.0L S14, dogleg gearbox coil overs, porsche Brembo 4 pots up front, e30 M3 steering rack , and a complete E30 rear subframe, limited slip diff and discs at the rear.

The body has been completly stripped down to bare metal primed and had Alpina arches bonded on, and is finished in Inka. Rims will be 15 inch revolutions or Porsche 15 inch cookie cutter rims and am undecided at this stage.

Where abouts in the UK are you located ?

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

That sounds like an excellent project . U have to get a project blog going so we can all see the car . I am going to change the back axle like you have at some point as the sort of power that i am after will kill the one i have on there at the mo . Did you change it youself and how is it done ?

I was thinking about the e21 rack but i think people that have done this have problems . How did u do the m3 rack ?

I live near catwick in a town called horsham if you are not to far i wouid like to see you car

Thanks Harry

Hello Harry,

I`m in Essex, give me a call sometime. I would also be intrestred in seeing your engine wiring, as I`m soon to install the engine. Give me a call on 07970229819.

The rear E30 rear subframe beam is modified to move the beam 30mm forward ( mounting points move backwards ) and in width ways in by 20mm ( each side ). I have modified the beam my self and is pretty straight forward. The rear diff hanger is also easy to fabricate, and is a similar setup to the E30 shell rear mounting. The wheel track is slightly wider than standard so body mods will be required if running bigger rims and tyres. I have alpina arches fitted so have not had to worry.

I still have a fair way to go . Anyway this your thread.

process is slow on the car at the mo becuse of lack of funds. the chain that i got for the oil pump turned out to be for an M10 and would not fit .

i was tempted to fit the old one back on but in the end for what they cost
i got a new one . And i am glad i did this
did not khow how bad the old chain was and how much play it had till i put the new chain on . so from now on if i am not happy with something i will wait and do it right the first time .

I got an oil sump baffle from Ireland engineering and i have had this fitted dy my farther in law . when the engine is back in the car i will see where i can inlarge the sump and ask him also to do this for me . just to get a bit more oil in there

when puting the cams back into the engine i noticed that the innlet cam was damaged . i have a new cam from cat cams on the way . i should get it in about two weeks . the cam is a bit like an schrick 274 and cost a bit less .

the latest update on my car so far . i have not had a lot of spare time at the momment so have not been able to get on with my car . but i have got some parts for it

i have now got a raddiator for my project . found one at the local car spare shop . the inlet and outlet on the rad are in the correct position for what i need and as it was ment to be for a car with a 2.0i turbo it should do me for now .

my new cam arrived last week and a friend is going to help me fit it in the engine . my friend used to work at the same place that i got the cam from so he knows how to fit them properly pluss i do not feel confident with mself not kill the engine .

i have been doing a lot of seaching on this forum about doing the vented brake upgrade . so this is what i am going to do
i am going to fit the vented brakes from an e21 but i am using 4pot caliprs from brembo . a friend has put me on to this idea and he made sure that they fit inside 13"wheels for me . this was not my idea but they should be better than the volvo 4pots
