Plug firing order, Coil options, Distributer options, Plug Options, Electronic Ignition options & common fixes and problems would be helpful. I'm working on my points and condensor, and am getting ready to time the car & set the valves. It would be nice to have a 'tune up' tutorial. Thanks, good site. |
Here's another suggestion,,, use your experiences tuning your own car to actually contribute *content* to the site! It'll make ya famous!! ;-)
(p.s. Valves adjustment is already covered by a FAQ but your idea about an Ignition System FAQ is a good one to cover whats not already in the pertronix article. :)) |
A few tidbits of my own, about electrical & 02's, I'm an electronics tech by trade, and have driven/owned 5 02's over 20 + years. Intermittant electrical problems can many times be traced to bad connections, either corrosion, dirt, or crimp on terminal going bad (corrosion on 30 year old wire under crimp). One easy one is interior light doesn't come on when you open the doors, pull the door switches & clean w/sand paper or scrape with screwdriver the 4 contact points on one side & the metal it contacts on the other side of that switch, then clean the screw & the hole it goes into. And no dash lights can be headlight switch or one of the terminals on the headlight switch could be going bad. And one that got me on 2 different cars, intermittant charging of the bat from alternator. The DF wire (could be any of the 3) on the 3 wire plug on back of alternator is loose, or corrosion has set in. Either clean & retension the connector, or pull it out with the wire & replace it while trying to not totally garf up the rubber plug. I think at one time these plugs were available. And of course clean the fuse holders every few years & fuses or just replace em. They get dirt & grime buildup etc....
