Subject: Might actually sell my '68 1600-2 - gauging interest

Too many cars to not have a garage! If there's real interest in this for my possibly crazy price, please let me know. I really hate to sell it, but it's too nice to be a daily driver and I just don't drive it enough right now. However, it costs me nothing to keep it (in the climate controlled underground garage at my office), so I have the luxury of waiting for someone who loves that Florida color as much as I do. Miles: 96,000; VIN: 1564600; Builddate: April 1968. I did see one on eBay recently bid up to more than $9k, and I'd love to see an even $10k for mine. However, that price is based on what it's worth to me as opposed to anything based in reality. I think my car might look nicer than the eBay one (no US turn signals, etc.), but mine does not have a sunroof or the original seats seen in the other one. And it has the original 4-spd. I do have a pair of early black front seats that I wanted to reupholster in tobacco, as well as an as-yet uninstalled package tray (speakers in current one, but no stereo). And a set of the bottlecap 14" wheels can go with it, if wanted. It runs excellent, revs high and pulls great, has no mechanical problems aside from soft-ish brakes (just did the front pads/lines - perhaps the shop didn't bleed the single-line system propely). Speaking of - it has tons of great vintage details, like the braking system, beautiful early mirror, 6 fuse (12-volt) electrics, early front signals, etc etc. Mechanical clutch makes some noise but feels perfect. It was a strong runner when I bought it so most of my work has been cosmetic - repainted everything in the original Florida Green (except for engine bay), patched a couple small rust spots with new metal (spare well, front valance), lots of new aluminum trim, wheels, caps, rings, wipers, washer fluid reservoir, seals (driver's door is hard to shut with new one) and various other bits. Interior looks great even without original seats (I believe these are from a 320 or late 02), headliner is original and clean, and the 3-piece dash is absolutely perfect and beautiful. I added the even older-school steering wheel and did my best to refinish the gauges. Bad points? Umm...carpet could be replaced, but it's complete and fairly clean; two stone chips on the windshield (small enough that we popped it back in w/o shattering and not in the driver's view), a scratch or two on the driver's window, some pitting on the front bumper, a less-than-perfectly shiny left front grille, and that damn door seal is about it. Lots of documentation - service records only back to '89 though. Does include record of rebuilt engine and trans about 40k ago. Driven about 500 miles since the repaint. Also, new Pirelli tires, headlamps, and a new, larger gas tank (couldn't find any early small ones anywhere). A few of you probably saw it at Fest West last year, and I think it got a pretty positive reaction. The car is in Santa Monica, and I can be reached at bombzaway@aol.com or 201.892.5104.
