This ad was in the SF Bay area Craigslist. This seller flunked the CA car smog test, this would be a great 02 for an out of state buyer. 75 and earlier are smog exempt in CA. The state has a program where they will buy back car's that won't pass smog and then they go to the crusher. Save this 02 from the crusher

http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/133245294.html 76 2002, white, gearbox type unknown, $1500 or best offer

Me and Canuck drove my 02 back from Chicago with a factory tool kit, bum rad cap and a funky throttle linkage and a fan belt..

i could go check it out if anyone is interested--

he probably is just timid. I drove my old rusty 76 across the country twice with the tried and true method of pouring gallons of oil in her. :)

fyi: it is illegal to sell a car in cali that does not pass smog-- and the state will give him .. what.. maybe 700 or 800 dollars to turn it in and crush it. SO- the 1500 is probably just a hope.

You are correct that the seller is responsible for getting the for sale car to pass smog prior to sale. But that technicality is not a problem if the car is going out of state immediately after sale where no smog testing is required. He won't get 1500, remember he asked for 1500 or best offer, someone make him a best offer. It's hard to say what's it's worth without pics and someone taking a look at the car.

Blunt, don't worry about it, there's always a few 76 02's for sale around $1K price range, come closer to Bay02 fest, just keeping checking this forum. Myself or some of the other bay area 02 fanatics will let you know about what's for sale in the SF Bay area. Their are more 02's in CA than anywhere else and that includes Germany (they are rusted away over there). I only saw one on the road the whole six months I was in Germany in 2004 except for at old car meets. If you live in the bay area, you will see an 02 nearly every day.
