Yes, Imola is the choice. I'm anxious to see how it looks as well. Will be a few weeks before they spray the engine bay (first opportunity to checkout the color).

BTW Greg, went by the shop on Friday an began removing bits and pieces from the '76. Man, I really feel sorry that poor car. Fred Flintstone floor pans, rotted shock towers, etc. I think you made a good decision in pulling the engine on it. It was well beyond repair. Made me feel much better about my '74.

Well, both rockers are done, doors have been hung, rear panels are done and tail section is complete. Shop is now concentrating on the front end and are having some difficulties getting the fenders to align properly. Seems that the car was hit at some point and the left front frame rail got tweaked a bit. They have been pulling on it to get it back in place. Wish they had done this before they hung the new panels in the rear.

After they get the doors swinging and panels aligned, they will cut for flares and take it in to be primed.

Waiting to go on....bumper going to Dave Varco in exchange for a newly plated one.

Once the bodywork completes, we will get started on the subframes and mechanics.

Here's that to do list...

1) Drop, clean & rustproof subframes
2) Adjust Steering Box
3) Gusset front subframe (driver side mount)
4) Fix bell housing (broken near selector rod)
5) Install new clutch kit
6) Install new timing belt & tensioner
7) Install new waterpump
8) Install new plug wires
9) Install rear camber adjustment kit
10) Install rear toe adjustment kit
11) Clean engine and replace any leaking seals
12) Paint valve cover & intake manifold
13) Install new idler arm bushings
14) Install new tierods
15) Install new track rod
16) Install new ball joints
17) Install new control arms
18) Install new urethane suspension bushings
19) Install rear subframe urethane inserts
20) Install Short Shift Kit
21) Install front big brake kit (Wilwoods, e21 rotors, bearings, etc)
22) Install new brass collar around tranny output flange
23) Install rebuilt heater box & new heater control valve
24) Install new ST front and rear swaybars
25) Install rear disc brakes
26) Install new MC

Pallet of goodies.

Big brakes

I have tried to ride these guys, but unfortunately, insurance work takes priority and mine seems to get bumped on and off the rack quite a bit. It's been frustrating to say the least. I was really hoping to get it back by September 1st so that I could get the interior and glass back in in time for the Vintage get together in Herndon on the 30th. Doesn't look like I will have it back in time to show it......but, I still plan on attending the event.

Geez, those US spec big bump-er mounts certainly add a lot more meat to the car!

Things look like they are progressing well. Good luck, cant wait to see the Imola beast all done!

Subframes dropped. Sent out for stripping. Shop now working on front. Got driver's side done, primed and covered with undercoat.

Shop owner also fabricated this dolly out of an old subframe that he had. Claims that he can "wheelbarrow" the car around by himself with this setup.

Oh well, at least things are moving along.

Rocker trim holes welded shut. Primer and undercoating applied in front. Front bumper holes patched. Fenders cut for flares. Shop decided not to take the pie cut approach on the rear and instead joined the gap with another piece of metal that the bodyman bent to fit. It is just tacked on in the pics and will be cleaned up before the flare goes on.

Hi BLUNT......thanks, and yes I am going to be running the beltline trim.....got it from you with the rest of the goodies that you originally sent.

Went back and forth on whether or not I should delete the rocker trim and decided to take the advice I received from Matt McGinn and go without it. Rockers will be black.

Congratulations on your father's successful surgery! Good to read that you will have him back working with you in the garage soon.

Flares are going on....

grabnuts - 5mm A-head

Front airdam - needs to be adjusted a little right

Incorrect angle - having difficulty getting it the align with flares and also am having issues with getting the "bumper" piece level

Coping of airdam

Mounting flange - suspect that this is causing my mounting issues.....appears to be at the wrong angle.....or my nose panel isn't quite right.

Current nose measurements - spoke with Matt McGinn today and the two on the ends are very close to the factory turbo mount point, the one in the middle is a little low.

Hood, trunk lid and doors cut in. Being stored in the shop's attic so they don't suffer any damages before going on.

Engine mount reinforced, IE camber & toe adjustment kits welded on and subframes ready to go back together and onto the car.

Fuel tank resealed and sprayed. Ready to go back in...

Engine being prepped.

More next week.

What did you respray the subframe and suspension bits with? I'm about to do that myself, and would greatly appreciate some suggestions...

Looking great, cant wait to see more progress!

Subframes were dipped and stripped then sprayed with OMNI MP170/175 Epoxy Primer then covered with OMNI MTK 9300 Black Urethane paint.

The bodyshop uses PPG products and OMNI is one of their less expensive paints. We'll see how it holds up.

wow thats really looking nice ian. gonna be some nice contrast between the imola and the black work on the motor. did you jetcoat the headers or is that high temp paint?? i need to do my header but am waiting until i get the motor in

Subject: Re: More pics

Headers came from MSDS ceramic coated. I had intended to leave them gray. However, the guy at the shop that was prepping the engine sprayed them with high temp paint. We'll see how long it lasts.

Intake manifold and valve cover were sprayed with high temp paint and then clear coated by the paint guy.

Subject: Engine bay and trunk painted, subframes going in this week

LTW flywheel and clutch installed. Engine going back in from the bottom this time.

Rear discs installed and rear subframe ready to go.

Had the fuel tank resprayed in a Matte black. Shop originally sprayed it glossy black.

Interior was painted in PPG's POR15 equivalent.

Engine bay.

Another. Shop took the undercoating/chip guard up a little higher than I wanted. In my opinion, it is not worth removing it and re-spraying primer and paint. Most of the bay will be covered by the engine/etc anyway.

Some trunk shots. Interesting to see how the imola reacts to flash.

We found a good set of rust free towers and used them as donors to make my towers a little more aesthetically pleasing. You may recall the large band-aid patches that were previously on them.

Progress has slowed during the silly season.

Some wiring work and undercoating. Rear subframe and suspension should go on this week.

The MCS belongs to a friend who enjoys the car, but hasn't found the time to hobnob with the MINI locals. He has a Harley that takes up some of his free time as well.

Ian - it's looking good. Keep on keeping on!!

That is coming along nicely. Do you jave any shots of the engine bay. It is reassuring to see that there is someone out there as foolish as I am. Can't wait to see the finished product.
