They are spraying a high build filler of sorts. i forget the name but it ends in "tox"
i will be running beltline and knee trim. the holes are there, you maybe just can see them.
i believe thats colorado but ive seen inka and thought it was colorado before so i dont know for sure. he wants this thing to sit for 2 weeks between primer and paint so it may be awhile till i actually have it. i was hoping for this month as that was what he hinted at. no rush i guess

stopped by today to check progress. not too much as weve had a couple snow storms which means they get busy. but he had managed to hang the exhaust for a test fit and cut out the pan for the center exhaust. i chose a single stainless tip as to not be too obnoxious, he snipped and bent the rear pan up and welded it in to create a rolled effect rather than just a cutout thru the sheetmetal. this is stuff nobody will ever notice but i like the small details. it just needs a bit of filler and it will look correct

you have to look close but you can see the rolled portion

and here you can see the quarters and roof are blocked out

lookin good! Interesting yo mention the exhaust, I decided to drop it out the back without cutting a new hole after the old one was fixed up.

The main muffler on my car is th elowest point on the car, so I thought it wouldnt aharm to have the exhaust not go through a cut out.

The body looks like they are putting a lot of care into it - I am interested in removing some of the metal from the seal holders to ensure with the new doors and rubbers that they wont stick out...

Whats your htoughts on that?

i hung my exhaust with stock turbo hangers and it wouldnt clear the tail panel so i had to notch it.
im not sure what you mean when you say "remove some metal from the seal holders. i would caution you not to do that, whatever that is. if i have issues with my seals ill adjust my doors so they work properly and perhaps in a year readjust them once the seals compress some.

Ok... someone mentioned it yesterday - without the car in front of me or pictures, it is hard for me to completely understand what they meant - I would like my car to look like all the doors lines up nicely after bying new ones and new rubbers.

I am planning a simple one into two with a straight cut tip for my exhaust, hence why I am not planning on chopping any out.

If need be, I might get it done. Will have a chat to the panel shop today.

will someone move this into the blog section? im getting a complex. i think it was moved into general discussion by mistake.
i was at the body shop this morning and they jambed the car. the engine bay looks beautiful with 2 coats of base and clear. the trunk not so good. he laid down 4 coats of paint in the trunk and its still not covered. i told him to keep painting till its covered. he has to scuff it and shoot it again. the new trunk floor looks great but all the areas that got fresh body schutz didnt seem to cover as well. he said its harder to shoot the trunk cause theres no place for the overspray to go. hes going to redo the trunk again and final block the outside and then shoot it. the color looks great in person but my camera makes it look washed out. colorado is a strange color under certain lighting. but even the painter is changing his tune after seeing the engine bay

They can never seem to look beyond red... They always change their tune when they see Colorado.

thanks jim, youre always welcome. they reshot the trunk friday and the engine bay and the trunk paint look nicer than i thought they could. my dad and i spent countless hours prepping the engine bay as i know the body shop wouldnt do as thorough a job in those areas.
ill shoot some pics next week with a decent camera. all i had last wek was my cheesy one

with the turbo exhaust. It roars a bit at higher rpms but very nice for around town. Then again you will probably carrying 50 or so extra hp than my 200. You will be spending time in the higher rpm registers though so I'll be interested to see how it is there.

I had the same body issues with the 72. Tiny rust spot in left rear qtr and rear window frame area became new qtrs, rockers, trunk floor, back panel, doors, hood and fore & aft floors. Saved the roof, front fenders, nose and trunk lid. In for a dime in for a dollar...maybe even more!

I'm definitely suffering from S14 envy! Nice job Blunt . Keep the photos coming!

i stopped over this morning and he had it washed down and was applying the body schutz stuff to the rockers and bottom of the nose. right or wrong i told him to leave it off the area behind the rear wheels as theres really nothing to cover the line it leaves and i didnt want that.

i left and did a few things and met up with my dad as he wanted to see the car. he hasnt seen it in person since the new panels were hung. i think hes more excited than i am. heres a few shots of it with base color only. the panels are really nice and straight. just as they assured me they would be. i worry too much. he was letting it flash and then was going to clear it. it has 4 coats of glasurit color and is getting 2 coats of clear this afternoon. then tomorrow he light sands it and applies 2 more coats of clear. ill go back tomorrow and get a couple once its cleared and see how it looks. but im very pleased with what im seeing up to this point.

heres my pops admiring it.

i forget how small these cars are. it looks so little in the booth

stopped over this morning to try and catch it before he started sanding the clear but i was too late. heres a couple shots of karl, my awesome painter, sanding the 2 coats of clear he did yesterday afternoon. theres zero orange peel and karl said it would have been good enough with just the 2 coats of clear for the normal work they do. the body shop manager told him to sand it and do 2 more. these guys are really treating me well. by the way, all the colorado haters at the shop have changed their tune and 3 of them came up today and said after seeing the color on the car they really like it. im glad i wasnt influenced by them but ill admit i was second guessing my choice after hearing them say it was nasty.
