Honestly Blunt wouldn't not have been cheaper to source a new shell?

Looks like the bodywork will be done soon.

Are you keeping it the same color? Can't recall if you said you would.

Well yes certainly it would have but not as much fun. i have a disease. i want to know whats under each piece and know its treated or protected in some way. i know its irrational but like i explained in the beginning of this thread i dont really care. ebay is paying for this car and im going to build it better than new. i dont expect anyone to understand or even approve. i could be doing far worse things with this money.

i stopped by today and was a little depressed seeing this. it bothers me that brand new panels need to be skim coated like this. he insists it looks like more than it is but my pass quarter looks like shit to me. i do have faith in this guy and maybe this is normal. if it is id appreciate one of our well known body guys saying so. it just bothers me.
rear fenders rolled and new outer wheel housings seam sealed

all un needed holes welded shut.this guy is an awesome welder. you cant tell at all where any of the holes were filled and no distortion. i need to drill for a license plate bracket im making and then im all set

hood and trunk

Looks awesome Blunt. Did you simply get the inner fender lips rolled in, or did they actually do that AND roll the outsides a bit further....out...too? They look like they are sticking out more than stock. Maybe its just the angle though..

Don't worry about fine tuning the body panels... it will last forever if done right, and its a lot better than a wavy panel!

My panels have been taken back like yours... the panel beater says he would prefer to do this than put all that faith in BMW being right. Your panel guy seems to know what he is doing!

What do you expect your car to owe you approximately by the end of this excercise? Sorry, dont mean to sound nosey, just interested...

Also, do you have two S14 motors?

20K is still a good deal for the whole project, even if you are doing everything but the bodywork. My brother just broke his 2.5 in his M3. It's worth the extra $$!! Gives it a little more low end torque.

i went over today and they havent done anything in 3 days. they got some collision work in and some stroke that works there is having his race car painted so mine sits a few more days. i brought over my exhaust tip today to mark the cut. right now it has the right side exit welded shut and i need to take an inch (or i should say he needs to) out of the rear pan to clear the tip i chose. its a simple round angle cut tip 3 inches. nothing too gawdy.
hopefully ill have more next week. im going to mark my antenna and do some extra body shutz before primer.

stopped by today to see them spraying filler. the roof was peppered with hail dings. he massaged many of them out beforehand like paintless dent removal style. my new quarters are so poor he said hed get a far straighter panel in the end if he used this stuff so i agreed. anyway, it looks like progress to me.

Awesome mate!

The guys dont look like they are painting, so why would they need masks? Are you going to run the waist trims and lower strips or not? Cant see any holes... maybe 3M double sided tape?

Looking good anyway...

You seen this I hope!?! Performance BMW Car of the Year 2005:

That is colorado isnt it?
