The car: 72 2002
The set-up:
Just installed Pertronix 1875V
New BLUE coil with a resistor block.
The result:
car runs like, well you know or I wouldn't be asking for help. The car misses and runs rough. I did the test by jumping the red ignitor wire to posistive battery. no change.
I checked everything......
In the morning I am switching back to points and condensor to make sure its not other problems. Car was fine before install

It's hard to mess up, but it can be done.
Things of note....
1. Did you take the dizzy out for install? If so, you may have not put it back in correctly for timing.
2. When you installed the Pertronix, were you careful not to pinch the wires while installing? The bendy part? The part that goest through the hole in the dizzy?
3. How hard did you have to push down on the "ring" during install? If you pushed too hard and didn't get it aligned right you're in big trouble!!!
Those are the 3 major areas of risk installing a Pertronix. Good luck.

OK? How? I did push down on it until it stopped. I am going to reinstall and recheck everything.

I had mine installed by my mechanic and it has worked perfect for the last 2 years. _________________ 75 2002

the resistor maybe your problem. I dont know if that is pertronix that I have specifically, but the resistor was designed to give your car a full 12v+ at start up and taper off eventually to give 6v+ once the car is operational, so as not to fry your points. If you have a problem after the car warms up, but not at start up, ditch the resistor. At bare mimimum it will give the pertronix a full 12v at all times. The only risk you run is that if you have a spike you could fry the pertronix, but as long as you run a regulated 12v for the pertronix there will be no problems. And as a side note check the shaft play in the distributor, and check that the mounting holes in the advance weights have not become ovals, as this will screw your advance curve and cause dropping higher in the advance curve.

Blue coil has a built in resistor, red and black do not.
