will 325e or a 318i or a 320i camshaft work better than the stock 2002 one?

A 325e cam will definitely not work, since it is a 6 cylinder engine. The stock 318i and 320i cams i believe are identical to the stock 2002 one.

If it is a 1.8i head the camshaft spins the other way then in the 2002 motor.

the difference is only that the 318i and 320i cams have the distributor gear running in the opposite direction. That's why you can't simply swap distributors - you have to swap over the gear/shaft on the dizzy. The cam lobes have to be identical because the engines turn in the same direction.

I'm sorry Gil is right the gear for the distributor spins in the opposite direction. Wasn't thinking clearly last night
