For Sale: 1970 BMW 2002 $5500
Found another project....have to sell the current one if I want to buy it.
I've had the car for about six months. I bought it from a guy in Dallas, TX. The guy didn't know what he was doing...so I got screwed and I've been fixing his mistakes ever since. Capitalize on my misfortune. Here's the skinny:
2L motor runs well. Weber 32/36 carb, electronic ignition, long-tube header. Previous owner says that it's a fresh rebuild....seems to be good. 320 radiator, K&N air filter. The header collector is 2.25" but steps down to 2" for teh rest of the exhaust.
Interior is "Saddle" and is pretty nice with no cracks or cuts in the vinyl. The dash is the later one-piece style with one small crack, but it's hardly noticeable. The carpet is there, but it's nothing special. The front window seal is new, though the rest of them (doors, windows) could use replacement. None of them leak, though there's a good wind whistle. No radio or center console. There are some components to a previous A/C unit, but I doubt that it will work in the near future. The heater seems disconnected from the dash controls....I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
The paint is new, but not of great quality, The Fjord blue could have used more prep work, but is there. I suspect rust is in the usual places, though I've checked the floorpans and they are rust-free, except for one small spot under the back seat. The trunk has had black bedliner-type sprayed.
Electrical: I've spent quite a few hours sorting out the electrical system. The engine, dash lights, wipers, headlights, reverse lights, brake lights and turn signals all work. The #3 fuse (6 fuse 12V system) has a short somewhere. Still need to find that one.
The good stuff: Since I bought it, I have installed new Ireland Engineering Stage 1 Springs front and rear, Bilstein HD shocks all around, Ireland engineering urethane bushings up front (I have the set for the rear, which I'll include with the sale), new ball joints and new upper strut bearings. The brakes up front are the Big Brake upgrade with new Ate 320 `77 disks, rebuilt Volvo 240 calipers, Volvo pads and new wheel bearings. The master cylinder is a new TII unit. The rear brakes are 320 drums, though they are far from properly adjusted. I also just installed the new turbo emergency brake cables, which are proper to the 250mm drums. Again, the brake system has all the hardware, it just needs to be properly bled and adjusted.
I also installed a 320 5-spd. The motor mounts are good and the rear tranny mount is an Ireland Engineering urethane bushing.
That's about everything. The car is in Lubbock, TX right now, but I'll be driving it home to Georgetown (just north of Austin, TX) at the end of the week. Please email me with questions:
