Subject: Anyone into rifles/guns/carbines?

I am lookint at some info about Veterlli carbine. My father just gaved me one and there is some missing parts on it.

It is a 1869/71 carbine as is sooo cooooool.

That was the time when all was hand made, no plastic, all heavy stuff.

for info, or their publication "The American Rifleman" as they have a section for just these sort of questions. I think you could do a google and come up with some sources of info too. Search for Marting B. Reddig in Culver City, California as they are very knowledgeable too. They actually let you own an historic firearm in Canada?

What would be quoted as an historic firearm?
its been in my family for so long, i have a picture of one of my grand grand uncle with a bear and few other animals, the picture is made of zinc, he got the gun with him....quite cool hein?

I dont know if i can or not have it, its there, thats it !! and bet that i will keep it.

I have found a lot of info on it over the net. I can even know who did the assembly, the final inspections and to who its been sold!! its all coming. Other than having all the parts of a 1869, but the serial number of a 1871, it is very nice. Every single parts on it are identified/coded, and all the numbers match.
Waffenfabrik, BERN.

But, it worth nothing because the cannon is cut, making it a very short carbine for braconage. Its been like that since 1920's.

It is a historic firearm, i dont need to register it or get a licence. It manufacturing date is 1869.

Go to the bottom of this page.

ouf !! it looked like a hell of a complication to register a firearm...

Subject: You're not quite out of the woods yet . . .

as if it is a repeater and fires centerfire cartridges it doesn't qualify. From what I've read it could be a 10.4x38mm rimfire cartridge, but the link you posted doesn't say if the rimfire is totally exempt from repeating situation. Do you know the exact caliber and cartridge your particular model uses? By the way, it's a Swiss arm, not Italian. I've got a couple of friends here that are in the L.A. Swiss Rifle Club, so if you needed additional info I could pass on your questions to them.

One thing I'd do is to have it inspected (once you know the legality of the situation) by a competent gunsmith to check that it is within specifications for things such as headspace of the cartridge, so the bolt closes and seals the chamber correctly. The last thing you want to do is to attempt to fire a weapon that you do not know is in correct firing condition, period. Even brand new rifles can be incorrect, and with an old rifle you could have had someone in the past fire an overpressure cartridge (from a handload or factory load that was incorrect) that damaged something, creating the possibility of explosion when fired. Remember, safety comes first and you don't want to experiment with your face and hands. There are also go/no-go dummy cartridges in many calibers to check headspace. You might check with a local Swiss Rifle club to find who is a knowledgeable gunsmith for your rifle. This is one link I looked at about the rifle:

Swiss Rifles

Always use hearing and eye protection too. Be careful and you can use the rifle (I know it's a carbine) forever. I wonder how much the ammo costs for that?

Thanks for the reply.
i was refering to italian by the designer , Mr. Vettereli. I know its a swiss firearm.
The way we name the arm in the family is "the 41 swiss", it is a .41 calibre . And yes it is rimfire.
I will never attemp to try it, even if i have found several places that sells ammunition for it. There is a group, in swiss, that rent a place where you can try your arms, they all have Vetterli arms.
I even found a discussion group on the net about this specific one. lol.

Ammo is found to be 10$ per 100.
The link you give is the best one ive found, there is comparisions in between all the differences possibles, even the the name of the person who did inspect it...
I have also registered to a survey who ask several nifty things about the arm so i will know a lot of thing about it. Someone already reply me and they just claim that it dont worth much even 100% complete, so mine worth nothing because its been modified, well at least it worth something for me.
