Subject: Another windsheild/gasket ???

So I'm about to re-seal my front and rear windsheild gaskets so I don't have 3" of water floating up the floor mats. Has anyone done this before? What I'm worried about is taking out that center bead & then trying to get it back in. Are they brittle? Do they crack? How hard are they to put back in?

TIA for all the help.

I need to order new front glass, but want to save the rear glass. I am going to order new seals and locking strips. I have heard it's not that hard to do yourself, but of course am hesitant.

Subject: relatively easy job

Actually pretty easy to do with the right stuff. Lots of advice in the archives on how to.
I'm no expert mechanic but have replace the front and did my rear twice. definitely a two person job. make sure you have a channel spreading tool to open the rubber gasket for the channel locking strip. damn near impossible without one. line up the windshield perfectly before starting - it will make slipping it in much easier.
good luck.
takes about an hour or two (less if you are lucky)

Subject: NEWseal trim filler needed !

You cannot reuse the rotten , brittle , faded seal trim strip.
Purchase new ones for front and rear, warm in bucket of hot water just before you install AFTER the glass and rubber are mounted on the car.

plan on injecting glass silicone sealer in all the outer corners
after the trim strips are installed. Inject sealent between the glass and
body, and again between the glass and rubber. per the BMW Repair Manual , and because it WILL leak without the sealent even with new rubber seals.

There are tools that make the trim strip installation easier - pictured here. Available from any BMW or SAAB dealer , ot generic tools from body shop/paint supply store.

have fun
