Subject: My car is still idling rough/ not staying on.

Hi all, thanks for all the input I got from you guys on my last post about my car not being able to idle right and stay on. I received some emails from Mike on this forum with some advice and I think I found the problem, thanks Mike! I've been messing around with it alot and tried cleaning every little part on/in the carb, everything seemed to be good. I was pretty sure this behavior had to do with a vacuum problem, there is no resistance when I suck or blow on the vacuum hose hooked up to the dizzy while the car is on/off. So my question is... will a vacuum advance unit from a 320i dizzy work on the 2002 dizzy? If so, which years, any chance one from an 81 320i will work? Where would I be able to find the vac. advance unit for the 2002 if the 320i ones wont work?
Thanks again,
-Cyrus

to be able to suck hard enough to make the disti advance. . . You can tell if you're getting advance by starting the car and disconnecting the vacuum line to the disti. If you take it off the disti (plug the end of the line with your finger) and the idle speed changes, the vacuum advance is not completely broken.

Have you checked that your dwell and timing are within spec? Have you checked for leaks in the intake system? What is the shape of your spark plugs?

Cheers!

The method I mentioned, is to check if their is any resistance when you suck on the line, and there was none, and it has a pertronix electronic ignition. I have gone through everything and the only thing that seems to not be working right is the vac. advance. That's why I'm asking if one off a 320i from the bone yard will work.
Thanks,
-Cyrus

1977 thru 1980 320i is the same as your 02, it may not show the same #'s and still have the same style/shape/fit.
