Just purchased this 1969 2002 and drove it home in the rain. Didn't really want to get it wet but it's been raining in NJ for a week now and will probably for another week. Can ran great on the way home, about 50 miles on the highway and 15 on the back roads, I was grinning ear to ear on the back roads!

Congratulations, that's a beautiful '02!

I've had mine for just over a month now, and I still get a thrill every time I drive it. They really are special.

because the nasty rotten , lumpy botched
repaired left front fender (behind the front wheel opening)
is about to shed it's bondo!
New fenders are in stock at BMW and with your BMWCCA
club = parts dept discount - they are about $180 - 200 depending on your relationship with your dealer parts dept. Good luck with it - see you at Lime Rock 02FEST next year (Post Labor Day)

still purring along as a daily driver. BTW--what's the VIN on yours? The pix shows no side reflectors--is it a "first series" (pre 1664760) with the two speed heater blower and other little detail differences, or is a "second series" that a PO has removed the reflectors? Red center tail lights?

cheers
mike

Did they make sunroofs that early? I have a 69 too...when a chickadee asks me what year it is, I say, "69 baby"

VIN number is 1663776 so it's a '69. Rockers need work so I know the sunroof is original :)

VIN number is 1663776 so it's a Series 1, long neck diff and all. PO put the euro lights on it.

Yeah, I thought it wouldn't show up that bad in the picture :) There's no bondo, it's just really wrinkled!

Had a 1974 2002 back in college, sold it for a 1972 Bavaria, sold that when it didn't get me to my first job a couple of times. Wish I still had both...

It's a Series 1 1969, longneck diff and all. Interior is from a 1974 though. Anything you need just ask. That's a sweet paintjob, I like the orange creamsicle comparison :)

Mobile Tradition (someone have the e-mail address) with your VIN...

BTW your car should have (or originally had) two piston front brake calipers and the "wide" front seats (seat backs are close enough together you can't reach between 'em like you can with later cars). Lots of detail differences between 68 & early 69 cars and the later ones....

cheers

I don't have the original seats, it came with 320is seats with BMW logo up near where your shoulder is. From the pictures I've seen the early seats had a much lower back also. I don't know on the brakes, I'll be taking each wheel off soon and really checking things out. First project is to install the 320is radiator that came with the car. Any tricks on doing that?

The insurance company wanted to know what the car cost new.....I did some quick checking and found some prices on Mobile Tradition and the insurance rep laughed when I told him I just paid what the car cost new in 1969! Talk about holding their value.
