Subject: hydraulic lift oil?

So I may hypothetically have aquired an older drive-on hoist... BEAR model (mostly sold in Canada I think). They all use ATF oil correct? Hopefully will finally get it wired up today and get a lift company to come out to give it the stamp of safety approval before I climb under it :)

thanks
Matt

Yes, nearly every lift I've worked with uses ATF. But, I have seen a few oddballs here and there.

I'd Google Bear up, give 'em a ring and just ask. It can't hurt, probably toll free too. See if you can get a manual for the thing while you've got 'em on the horn.

Thanks Tom. I put in ATF, got it all hooked up, electrician came, and..... nothing. Well, nothing meaning a really bad electrical sound, like a nasty horn of sorts. He admittedly hasn't been in the field that long, and has never really done DC work, so I'm thinking he hooked it up wrong. The motor DOES get hot, but doesn't spin. (outside casing as well as the top ofthe shaft both get quite hot).

Having said that, Bear did send me a wiring diagram... I have another electrician coming down in the next couple of days to check it out. Nothing worse than a hoist that doesn't hoist.., its like a Christmas nightmare, all these presents and I can't open them!!

Matt
