they have an option: street view, you can actually see an actual picture, as seen from a car! I guess the drove around all over the US, they even made it all the way to Quien Sabe Rd! It is incredible! I am sure that the guy that went up had a great time driving it!

just type quien sabe rd, hollister, and hit the arrows, you can actually follow the road!

Yep, there's been lots of debate over privacy issues with it. There were a few people that didn't like themselves or their houses pictured on it. But they argued that its in full public view, so its allowed.
And yes, people drove around with cameras. I think they've only covered some of the major cities so far. There's no way they're gonna come around here anytime soon.

Personally, I'm really annoyed with google maps now that my scroll wheel controls the zoom. Any ideas how I can turn off that function? Whenever I bump the scroll wheel it instantly zooms to some extreme level and my connection (roadrunner) can never keep up with it at all.

They actually did one installation before it was turned off by DoD.

I snapped a picture of their cars last April. It was some high tech stuff all strapped to the roof of some cars. I knew it wasn't amatuer radio, but I couldn't tell what it was. Then, at a birthday dinner last month with someone else from this list, I found out what this equipment was as their child was one of the drivers. They said they were having to do a couple of drives for some locations for winter and summer.

I think we should just get a GoPro camera and mount it on Bachus for a drive on Michael's 'ring.

I think its cool. I like using it to show people where I live. 14 Adams Street, 02129. rotate it 180 degrees and look at the green & yellow house with the red door - that's where I live.

My apartment was built in 1947 as a 3-row mechanic's garage. There is only one garage left now. It had 3 pits and was an open two story loft. Was the only garage in Charlestown. I think I love living there so much because even though it's snooty & posh it was still a garage and it keeps me in touch with the car guy in me.

In the late 50's the pits were filled in and it was converted over to the Charlestown Bridge, the local newspaper... in 77 my landlords bought the place for $40k (now worth probably $600k), renovated it and have rented it since.

Please don't stalk me...

Steve, I was actually thinking the same thing, I have a mini tripod and some duck tape, we can tell those Google people what a good drive is!

look up www.goprocamera.com.
Through their generosity and the efforts of another FAQer, we gave away two of these cameras at the Shamrock.
By coincidence (?) one of the cameras went to another fellow FAQer, however I have yet to see any video posted!
