Subject: 1972 2000tii Touring Reassembly

I will start a new BLOG with pictures of the reassembly.

I brought the car home on Aug 4th and started tinkering with it on Monday. I have had limited time to devote to it, but I am making progress.

The tear down and first part of the refurbishment is in a seperate blog below.

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,274592/

I will try and post weekly updates.

Moving the car from the body shop in Greensboro, NC

Wrapping the harness

Wrestling that dreaded clip on the brake rod

My youngest, Evan, helping me drop the CV joints and springs to install the bump stops

Rolled it out of the midget garage for a photo op

Matthew Cervi, Nathan and Mike "On Star" Pugh, installing the transmission on the motor

We installed the motor, transmission and sub-frame as one unit. No fuss, no muss, no scratches. It took about 1 1/2 hours from putting the motor in place on the ground until the final subframe bolt was secured.

Motor in place, we lowered the car to small jack stand height, then raised the motor to mate with the body/frame rail.

Mike securing the transmission

Thanks to Bill Riblett, the bumpers are on

Had some valuable help from the wife on installing the heater control valve

Matthew Cervi teaching me how to install the windscreen

Mr. Eric, my old German friend who live across the field from me, wanders over from time to time to check on me.

Heater box going in for the second time. I had to reconnect a wire that slipped loose in the box and fix some interference with the fan.

Rear brake lines finalized

Fuel pump hooked up and that miserable 8x13 pulled through the hole that must have been designed for an 8x12 line

Shift platform, speedo cable, and exhaust support installed.

Installed the hood latch bar, wiper motor and spitters.

Dash cluster hooked up. Hope all of it works when I turn on the power...

Waiting on Bill Riblett to help me finish the bumpers

Getting closer, but still a long way to go.

Interior is coming along, still have to bolt down the seats and trim around the shock towers with some seam tape.

Rear close to completion

Hope it fires this week or early next week!

As soon as I tighten the clamp around the filler neck, it is ready for fuel.

That hatch with an original cover and utility box

With more help from Bill Riblett, it fired with little coaxing. Having some trouble getting it to hold an idle below 1,300rpms.

The wife also assisted in attaching the radiator after I had to take it out because I was the village idiot for the day.

Evan is up and around, but still not able to be of much assistance.

Center hood hold down

Hood latch taken from the front end of car

Picture taken from beside the driver's door

First drive on Labor Day 2006

Console installed

Older son helping Pops figure out how to put the felt and chrome on the door panels

Evan hobbled down to help me tidy up some wiring and put on the air cleaner.

Evan taking it for his first drive

Original sales brochure from 1972, a gift from Dr. Marti and the BMW model, a gift from my wife

Driving lights installed

Airbox is in, still have an idle problem

First night drive

Evan's first day without bandages and knee immobilizer
