You mention the vertical ribs on later cars being a small issue for fitment - but I believe those ribs are nothing more than temporary supports intended to minimize damage during storage and shipping. They are to be trimmed/ cut of during installation.
Anyone have another opinion on these or different experience?

My '76 still has the ribs. I'm installing some Hella 1000's I've had in my parts stash for 20 years and am using Pierre's brackets. I do have to cut one of the ribs.
