Subject: The early gas cap key saga, continued (final chapter!!)

My local hardware store finally got the BU2 keys in, and the blanks fit in the early gas cap! This is the cap as fitted to roundies with a polished stainless steel face and round diecast keyhole cover. They will not work with the later style caps--losenge-shaped keyhole cover or what BMW is selling now, with no keyhole cover.

These blanks are a much better fit than the H62VG blanks we had been trying.

Chris Macha & Peter Varga, I'll send your keys out in the next couple of days. Someone else on the board asked me to save him one; please contact me; can't find your e-mail that I thought I saved.

I have three or four extra keys (had to buy ten) so if any of y'all need a spare blank, contact me offline. They're $4 each plus a SSAE.

All this 'cause I lost my spare gas cap key last September on the way to Ofest!

cheers
mike

if this is the cap, please save me 2. I think I'm the one who asked earlier but it was in a post and not email. Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Great news on the new set of blanks.

I had asked to have one put aside IF you were willing to mail it to Canada.

If you can, then let me know how much and payment method.

Cheers and thanks for the effort!

Pierre

Hi Mike,

I'm wondering if you are willing to ship some blanks my way in Canada. I'll gladly pay for the additional postage.

Only catch is that I can't send a stamped envelope as I can't get US stamps...

Regards,

Pierre

the ones I just got are marked "DL" (Dominion Lock), "made in Canada"

I'm sure we can figure out a way to get you a key, but see if you can get it locally--that would be a lot easier.

We make stuff here apart from maple syrup? Who knew!

I'll take a look out this way with a few of the locksmiths nearby. I'll try a web search for Dominion keys also I'll report in a couple of days.

Thanks,

Pierre

Just so y'all know the BU1 blanks are also used... by those gas caps. Just be sure which profile your cap uses.

I've found even a third key that those caps use. I'll fire up the camera card reader tomorrow and post some pics. Billy Ray's TI has it... I snapped a pic while it was in the shop a few weeks back.

Mike, I had asked for one and we talked about it at V@V; however, mine's a 1976 squarie. Here are some pictures. What do you think?

Mike,

No luck in the search here for the blanks BU2 nor BU1.

So if you can set a couple aside, I'll get you either real money in an envelope that will cover both keys and a couple of stamps right away or if you can hold them a little, my brother is heading down to Chicago and can bring back stamps in a month or so.

Thanks,

pierre
