Subject: Dirty plugs?

I just changed my spark plugs 2 weeks ago along with the ign. wires and a pertronix ignitor. it was running rough for about a week until i got the timing some what set just by sound. i checked the plugs and they are DIRTY. Black and oily. Whats with all the oil?

Leaky rings, leaky valve guide seals or leaky head gasket?

Not sure which plugs you used but may want to go with a hotter plug. Then again, a compression check may be in order.

What gap should my plugs be at?

Lots of different thoughts on that. Hit the search button and you'll have lots of reading to do. Manual says .024-.028 but a lot can happen when mods have been made to the system. Many have gone with a much wider gap of .035-.040. Looks like it's trial and error to find what's best for your particular situation.
