First i want to thank bart also known as Thatguy on the board for coming over and giving me some welding tips it was a huge help. Ok so i got some work done on the two corners under the front windshield that was completely rusted out.

Before.

After still need to grind down weld and add some filler but i am happy with it since it is First time down any body work.

Plus got the roof primed and some trim wholes welded up.

Looking better Jay. Remember, practice, practice, practice on the welding. The more you do the better you get.

Those are tough areas to repair, good on you for taking on such a job.

Keep us updated.

Oh, and don't forget to treat the rust INSIDE of any body panels you can reach.

You did good on those patches! Wish I had the space, tools and, most of all, knowledge to do bodywork.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks man ,but to tell you the truth I am learning as i go with getting all the tools and body work.
First is a new pic of the corner under the front windshield .I ground the welds down then hit it with some filler now just need to do a final sand on it.

Second i got my first layer of primer on most of the body.

Last was the fender it had a big rust hole that i put a patch in and filled in all the extra holes . I was going to get new fender but thought to myself that i wanted to learn body work so i kept them and just fixed em up . I think it turnd out good for my first time.

This is were i patched it should have takedn photos but was busy and forgot will do it for the other fender.

Well done on attempting the welding and bodywork. It looks like it came out great.

I wish i had a 68 1600!

Ok so i got some seats for the car not sure what they are from but they are fiberglass and very light plus good shape. I do know they are from 70s or 80s.

looks good, will you be keeping the rat racer matt finish or are you going for a gloss coat?

EDIT: Also if your gona be tracking it maybe take out the sound proofing if you can bear the louder road noise

I will be doing a gloss coat two-tone. I know what colors but it is going to be a surprise. My goal is to be done by end of summer so hope everything goes to plan . Jason

Ok i used the dry ice method today on the floor took about 2 hours . I read online that you break it up in little pieces and move it around but it was much easier for me to have one or two big chunks and slide those around. As for rust not to bad thought it was going to be a lot worse . So i will cut some panels out and por15 the floor .

I also weighed out the big chunks some of the pieces turned to dust after hitting it but got most .This is just the floors not the tranny tunnel. So 16 pounds not to bad.

i guess that answers my questions, ive heard you canbget like 30kg's out of just the sound proofing, but i may be wrong.

Hey bingbong just noticed you edited that in. Well there is some more sound deadening on the tranny tunnel i will need to heat gun and scrap off so not sure how much weight all together.

Ok so a tackled what i thought was going to be the most difficult part which it was so far. The rust under the rear window was bad no way to repair that so i cut a large chunk out from a salvage yard in berkely.
I have been trying to trim it so it would fit as best as possible before welding. I have been working on it for about two days now . I am proud of the progress just need to grind the weld then check it over. Here are same pics.
Before.

After. Still need some work but it is getting there.

looks prety good my only concern would be the penetration on those welds

Those will not be the finale welds i just wanted to get it all lined up. I will be grinding those down and trying to get some some more solid welds on it. Still trying to get the welding down just learning as i go .

You need to turn the heat up a little on your welder. As it is now, you are mostly putting little blobs of melted MIG wire on top of the metal you are trying to weld. When it is hot enough, the MIG wire will flow into the joint more.

This is slightly off topic from your 1600, but I have to ask...

What's the other car in the garage next to it? :)

nice work! keep it up..... I would agree use a bit more heat on the welder but a series of small "spot welds" is the best way to go when doing thin sheetmetal as found in our bodies....too much heat and you get warpage or blowthru.

As for the other car it is a original sterling kit car fro the 70s .It is all fiber glass with a hydraulic lift off roof. But at the moment it is just a good table haha.

Try turning up the wire speed on your welder and you should be able to get smoother welds. If its spitting like that its because of that, or, you're not grounded well.

I was trying different things today not sure if it is because i have a mig with flux core no gas. It was turned up to 8 out of 10 so not sure if i should turn it up all the way. Well practice makes perfect . But thanks guys for all the tips every thing is helping you guys are saying. Just keep it coming. Jason

If its spitting, its the wire speed being too low, the amperage too low, or, you just need to practice moving more slowly and smoothly. Sometimes it can be from a bad ground, too. Usually its the wire speed.

definately practice on some 16ga sheet metal and get the settings dialed in just right.... it still looks off. Please get some gas.....flux core is just such a mess and should just be used on farm equipment.....

Get some gas, and practice on some scrap peices and before you know it your welds will be looking much better!

That's what I did!
