Per my earlier post. I was working with this mirror material you can cut.

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/p,519361/highlight,/#519361

Like most of us, I want my brake lights to very visable. But the reflective finish has long since worn off and chrome paint was not reflective enough. So I decided to try something different.

The kit comes with double side mounting tape, but you will need more then the kits tape to do all the light sockets. For the sides you will need to cut up the mirror and then sticket on the the tape like a mosaic because the mirror material does not bend well.

Here are the before and after of the light socket. The mirrors reflect more light.

Nice job!

I just did my '74's rear lights with Krylon Chrome spray rattle can. I think that'll be a worthwhile improvement, too. It's "whatever anybody wants".

I still think that I'll install a third brake light on the rear deck, too.

btw, I'm going to be in Houston, 8/3-8-6, for work. staying at the Courtyard Marriott/Sugarland, 12655 Southwest Freeway. Are you close?

I would like to see some pics on the rattle can shine of these rear lights along with what product. Mine came out dull. But you are right "anything you want" for these cars. Its fun coming up with new solutions to old problems.

Our brake lights are low. I am ordering a third brake light also. Just contacted Dan at www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html I ordered Model #38. Because our back glass has about a 45 degree angle is what I am told.

Also thinking about the BackOff light module http://www.amotostuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DS-272352&Category_Code=dl650_electrical

Looks like you will be in Houston until mid week. I have Army Reserve drill that weekend so lets try to hook up during the week. I will email my number.

I'll phone you up, for sure. I think that there's lots of places close to my hotel to grab a cold beverage. It'll be good to get a look at your '02!

Thanks, for the info on the 3rd brake light! That just might be the one that I go with, too. I haven't had any success at the junkyard, yet.

There is another 3rd brake light flasher, that I found on FleaBay, for $14.95, that seems like a good one, too. I'll check at home, tonight, and post here with that information.

My car sits pretty low, too. Can't be bad to overilluminate when you apply the brakes. Stopping is over-rated but it's best to be seen when you have to do it.

FYI, 3rd brake lights can be used from E23/E24/E28 and look very similar and are MUCH cheaper from a recycler.

I went that route on my '76, but the damn light is too large in the rear deck.

I went with a LED brake light in my tii from rallylights.com. Hella - HL96214 was the model, and I made two small aluminium mounts and drilled a small hole in the rear deck to pass the wire through and ran it directly back to the left rear tail light and soldered it at the 12V+ and - connection points. When the light is off it is nearly invisible, when you press the brake it is intensely bright. A good thing to have in NYC traffic....

Ozzy,

I got your e-mail and number to phone you when I'm in Houston! Thanks!

The brake light flasher module that I was refering to is the "Rear Alert" Brake Light Safety Module. I found it on FleaBay for $14.95 with $3.95 shipping. www.rearalert.com You might want to check it out. I think that this pricing was for a limited number of modules, at this "Buy It Now" price, back around the end of June. It might have changed by now.

Anyhow, got to save some coin whenever possible.
