That is a cool car, Harv. But, take it from a Peugeot 404 owner - if it's a Peugeot, there is no such thing as a "spare part," anywhere on the planet (or in the galaxy). Bike parts, yes. Car parts, nada.

Not that it's any better, but I think it's a Renault.

Yup, I'm familiar with the car - it came from the era when both companies were sharing parts and platforms. We've owned a 403, a 404, a 504, and two Renaults. One thing is true from that era - and I guess I should have modified my original post - if it's from France, from the 60s or 70s, there are no such things as "spare parts." They simply do not exist.

It gets this bad with these cars - we had a mechanic in Southwest Virginia who had managed to scarf up all of the old Peugeot parts in the world. But, he died (without anyone really taking note, since he lived alone is SW VA). And his heirs apparently junked all of the parts - simply had the parts hauled away by CHHJ (College Hunks Hauling Junk). And so, there went the entire stash of U.S. spare Peugeot/Renault parts.

If only I had RIMSPOKE's talent as a machinist - I could get the 404 running again. Only then could or would we address the rust issues. You think we have it bad, with rust? Y-ain't seen nuthin' 'till you've seen a Froggy rust bucket. Even the plastic parts have rust.
