Took a ride to see it Yesterday. 72 tii that is the perfect candidate for a restoration. The car is all there, the glass, seats(recaro) fender and hood are included. The owner is motivated to sell, and if doen't go as a whole, he's gonna part it out(which would suck). The details: Shock towers are clean, body seems pretty clean. The passenger floor and frame rail are crusty, but that seems to be it. Looks like nose was off at some point, but the correct one is on there. Plastic intake runners. Wiring doesn't seem to be molested. The dash is not there and was sold already. That seems to be the only thing missing. It's sitting on bottlecaps. Has some big sway bars and bilsteins. I'm sure if you went up there with cash, you could strike a deal. Please don't let this thing become an autoparts store.

"THIS CAR HAS NO LEGAL PAPERWORK TO REGISTER IT."
This little issue may complicate restoring this car.

Ok, then don't buy it. It may complicate things a bit, but might be worth it!

Don't you just have to apply for a lost title and you're done? It doesn't seem like it'll be THAT difficult....

It's actually kinda hard in NY. But in other states, it might be easier, so someone give it a shot.

Actually old cars just need a bill of sale, and you can get a title for it. At least thats what I've done in the past....

Well in this case, the guy has NOTHING. Nothing from the previous owner, not even any contact info. And the car came from another state, so that adds another can of worms to be opened. A bill of sale from the current owner would apparently be worthless, he said he has tried to get it legit, but the dmv gave him shit. I'm sure it could be done, just lots of red tape too cut. It's a shame, cause it really would be worth it to the right person.

78 I think or it may be rolling 25 years or something like that. I have bought many cars used a bill of sale from my brother to me then registered it. As much as a pain in the ass CT used to be (quick story: I could not register an old GTi 10 yrs ago because of condensation in the taillight-unreal-a few years back I drove my flared car to DMV in primer with no wipers, no seatbelts, no bumpers, no passenger seat and of course no rear seat and all they did was look at the VIN...) All they do is a VIN check, where they look to see the VIN matches that on the paperwork. Then the kicker is, there is no title issued, your registration is proof of ownership. Can make it a bit odd when selling out of state, they think you are scamming or something...

Yeah CT doesn't have the safety inspection which is nice, especially if you have any non-DOT modifications done to the car...They still check emissions on the new cars though...
