Subject: Jack Stands - Front Placement

I did a search and saw some threads on putting jack stands under the rear, but wanted to ask about the front. The features that I would call frame rails are too wide for my stand; I like a point that settles into the head of the stand.

Ahead of that, I see some points that might work, but they are all connected (in some way, shape or form) to the front suspension, and I don't want to set the car on something that will botch my alignment or suspension. You never know when you'll pick THE weak point, so I thought I would ask.

I made wide (4") flat clips, welded them to the tops of the stands
and put 'em under the front inner fender connectors
(what you'd call the 'frame rails')

The front subframe itself is also stout enough to take point loading.

None of the front suspension really is...
nor is the rocker panel.

Something to consider if you use the frame rails. Jackstands here stress the car. Try jacking it here for a bit with the stands and check how differently the doors close. U usually turn the flat part of the stand sideways and put it by the mentioned #10 bolt on the subframe. That way all the stress is where it would normally be while resting on the wheels.

I use the same area..basically the 'pipe' would be the area where the bolt runs through that holds the control arm to subframe. That's a very sturdy place..I've never had a problem placing my jack stands there.

I've been using the frame rails (after wrapping the top jackstand "head" with duct tape to provide a little cushion), but next time I'll try the round rods (# 10).

I place a 2x4 or stouter piece of wood along the length of the frame rail and put the stands under that. I find that having the stands under the subframe often gets in the way of the work I need to do.

On a side not one of these days I'll get around to making a beam that uses the stock jacking points aka bolts number 10. There is a diagram for it in the factory manual.
