Subject: making battery acid?

I bought a motorcycle battery online ($8), and they didn't ship it with acid since its not allowed with UPS.
Rather than searching car parts stores for it, I was just thinking of making my own at the lab for free-fitty. Only sources I can find online say either 33.5% or 35% sulfuric acid. I was thinking of just diluting some conc. sulfuric acid under the hood with some deionized water (or maybe distilled?), then fillin it up.
Any down side to this? And yeah, it's allowed.... _________________ 1974 2002, 4224479, #74 EP/FSP, daily driver, track toy

I went ahead and did it, but it was kind of a pain. When you mix pure sulfuric acid with water, it gets extremely hot (and prolly toxic to inhale, but hood took care of fumes).
The instructions on the battery said to make sure the acid is 60-85 degrees F before adding, so I had to wait a long time for it to cool down, even with surrounding it with ice. It was also messy with changing gloves a lot and making sure not to touch anything.
But I got 'er done, and the bike actually has battery power now, wooohooo. Turn signals are working (blinking occasionally...), so I might be able to take it for my test sometime. _________________ 1974 2002, 4224479, #74 EP/FSP, daily driver, track toy
