Subject: Paging Markmac. RE: BMW 02 Series - Lifestyle Articles

Whilst digging into my stash of stuff today, I pulled out a catalog of BMW 02 Series Collector items (No. 01 20 0 147 439).

On page 23, there are two items with YOUR CAR on it. One, (No. 80 32 0 030 788) is a poster (59 x 42 cm). Two, (No. 80 57 0 145 834) is a mouse pad (23 x 20 cm) with the same image.

But wait there's more!!!

On page 18 (No. 80 23 0 145 880) there is an automatic foldng umbrella (ella, ella, eh, eh) with four race car images printed on it. And yes, one of the images is YOUR CAR!

I picked up a handfull of these catalogs at O'Fest 2002 in Keystone, CO. along with some reprints of the David E. Davis "Turn Your Hymnals..." article from April 1968. Mr. Davis spoke at the dinner that year.

Anyway, if there's not a way to resurrect a few of those actual items for you -- at least you know the part numbers from M/T.

Cheers!

Delia

Thanks Delia. The car on the poster is #102 and raced in this race and it was I believe its first race:

Int. 9 (IX) ADAC-300km Rennen un den Goodyear-Pokal
Circuit / Track: Nurburgring Nordschleife, BRD
Date: June 15-16, 1974
Entries: Unknown
Starters: Unknown
Distance: 300km (22.835m/Lap – 131 Laps) (186.42mi)
Driver: Thomas Betzler
Qualified – 3d in Class, Qualifying Time 9.21.2
Result: Unkown
Car Number: #102 (Langnese)
Notes: “Apart from the GT’s, reported elsewhere, an interesting 2000 cc touring car field was present: Glemser, Betzler (ALPINA 2002) and Basche, and usual participants like Gartmann, Heit, Schormann and Assmuth. But only Gartmann was able to more or less follow Glemser’s pace; Betzler (ALPINA 2002) and Basche had other troubles but were able to pass Gartmann in the end, despite cockpit overheating (Betzler) (ALPINA2002) and a fuel leak (Basche).”

ALPINA sent me the original image (now digital of the poster) so although i dont own the poster, I could probably have one made from the pic I have - still I should try to get one (if they have them).

Jan from San Jose (ALPINA A4/ Inka tii Touring) purchased a Konig race seat off of me and gave me the mouse pad (which was really cool of him-thanks Jan). That image is different from the first and is from the car's second race. They hadn't yet cut the openings in the spoiler for the brake ducts (on this or the #102 car):

Int. DMV Avus-Rennen
Circuit / Track: Avus Berlin, BRD
Date: June 29-30, 1974
Entries: Unknown
Starters: Unknown
Distance: Unknown
Driver: Thomas Betzler
Qualified: Unkown
Result: 2nd
Car Number: #142 (?) (Langnese)

The umbrella would be a cool period piece to have, again i dont know if they are still available but I should try to get one (get the whole set). I imagine that if I contaced MT they might be able to dig one up.

thanks again.

Mark,

I have an extra copy of this catalog I could send to you.

The handfull I grabbed at O'Fest in 2002 has been moved around a bit in my travels and they all show some wear. I kept the best one.

You're welcome to one of my "spare copies."

Contact me off-board if you're interested.

Delia

I had my local dealer parts guy check the #'s ... forgot to ask about the Umbrella, darn.

But the poster and the mouse pad are NLA. Sorry.

Too bad, the mouse pad would've been really cool to have.

Jan gave me the mousepad. I am guessing they are all NLA. I am still reeling from the pain of 120 hours of fabrication work on the car and the associated bill. At some point I will probably contact mobile tradition and see if they might have one laying around somewhere and use my leverage through ALPINA to get the poster and umbrella. That "leverage" really isn't anything other than I have the car and they try to help me out when they have time. Still, if the request comes from them and the part actually exists I will get it (and pay for it as well).
