What differences are there between a Tii's cylinder head and a head from a non-Tii 2002?

I was thinking that there might be some sort of port for mounting the injectors... ? I haven't ever owned a Tii...

I am by any means a tii expert, but I can say that the mechanical fuel pump mount is non-existant on a tii head(blocked off). The rest is up the real tii experts. Bill W. chime in?

Is it blocked off by a removable plate...? Or something more permanent?

From what I know, it is a cast block off. A bolt on job shows signs of a carbed 02 head adapted to tii use.

So you can use a non-Tii head on a Tii...

... but NOT a Tii head on a non-Tii?

Wrong, you can use a Tii head on a non-Tii - but you must use an electric fuel pump thats all.

Subject: A tii casting is the same, but the pushrod and stud holes

are not drilled, so you could drill the holes and tap the mounting stud holes if you had to, to block the holes on a non tii head, there is a plate available. The difference on an early (121, mid 72 and earlier) tii head is the use of 46mm intake valves rather than the 44mm ones used on 1 barrel carbed 121 heads, all later carbed and tiis use 46mm

As far as I have ever seen there was never a specific Tii replacement cylinder head, even as a new part. This is based on 25 years of experience. The differences between the carburated and injected heads are:

A. For the carburated motor there are the holes drilled and tapped to secure the spacer block and mechanical fuel pump.
B. The early Tii needed two of the three holes (the tapped ones) to hold the #1 stub manifold for the injector. These studs were longer as shown in the picture of the factory rebuild.
The later Tii's (mid-72 and beyond) had a one piece stub manifold and thus did not use any of the holes. This would account for the fact that with an original head there were no holes drilled/tapped.
C. All heads used the same camshaft, the same rockers, the same rocker shafts, etc.

The pictures show a brand new head that the holes were welded up and machined for a super sweet '73 Tii. They also show the longer studs needed for an early Tii that will be removed and the factory block-off plate used as this motor is going into another sweet '74 Tii.

Jim G - I got your email and will respond.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Wish my car was lucky enough for that long block (or at least the cylinder head).

Any pics of the M10 versus E30 style valve stem seals for us newbies?

Rob - waiting patiently on your response.

Wow, very clear answer Rob.

Sorry to chime in, but it was easy to click on your reply
button.

My parts showed up a few weeks ago in perfect order.

My wife then proceeded to back up into my nephews / parts transporters Subaru. Actually just a minor scrape with a quick remount of the plastic trim pieces...

It did put a excellently nice scrap on her Escalade though.!!

Thanks again
