I'm in the process of rebuilding my Girling calipers and I need to know what the torque spec and sequence (if required) are for the bridgebolts that hold the calipers together.

Thats a tough one since many will tell you you shouldn't ever split a caliper. However I have done it many times with no problems. I never torqued them to any specific torque but just made them good and tight with a 3/8th ratchet. That's about 35 ftlbs.

Pff, my dad's got a few sets of Kelsey-Hayes Mustang calipers split apart downstairs all over the place, and he tracks his car! Plus, I thought that was more because the o-ring for stock and tii calipers was NLA.

I am no expert but I have split calipers on many occasions without ill effects. I have done it on Porsches and E9's usually with new hardware including Orings. I am certain I recently saw specs posted on the net for many different (ATE?) calipers with much higher torque settings 75+ft.lbs? The torque may even be higher. One thing to consider is that some of the manufacturers used to recommend using new "one-time-only" fasteners.

If I can find the cite, I will post, but I am guessing you could find it almost as easily. It was on a brake cite.

75+ft-lbs sounds like an incredible amount for what are more or less M8 bolts with fine thread; BMW seems to suggest about 25 ft-lbs for M8 bolts elsewhere.

I know I saw very high torque figures for some kind of brakes. I have not had an opportunity to search the net, and I would bet that Volvo posts the very specs you are after. I went to my E9/E3 manual and discovered the following torque specifications in ft/lbs:

Front caliper halves: 33 to 40
Rear caliper halves: 16.

In essence, these figures are just above hand tightening status.

Hope this helps.
