Subject: Painting Metal Roundel

I am in the process of a Bavaria refurbishment and I do not want to spend close to $30.00 for a new one. I have the original metal one and the blue and white paint from a previous one I painted on my Tii. But, I never did the black before. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should use for the black and the steps to mask off and paint first? Thanks.

1. mask off the center (blue & white portion) and the outer rim

2. prime the outer ring with self-etching primer (optional) and then spray with gloss black paint. After the paint has dried but before it's hardened, take your fingernail or a small piece of plastic and carefully scrape the paint off the "BMW" letters. Much easier than trying to mask 'em off.

3. Buy a bottle of Testors (model paint) white, and #1111 Blue at your local hobby shop.

4. Thin the paint just a little, and with the Roundel lying flat, use a toothpick to dab the thinned paint into their respective circle quarters. The slightly thinned paint will flow nicely and not leave brush marks (why you use a toothpick). It might take two or three coats to get the proper thickness.

5. Let dry for a day or two, then reinstall.

Have fun.

tip.....thin the paint, fill a small brush then just touch it to the metal or let the paint drop on the metal until the recessed portion is full or almost full of paint...then move the part around and let the paint flow out...the raised portions in the center and outside edges will keep the paint where it's supposed to be...it dries flat with no brush strokes
