Subject: WANTED - BMW 2002 "Roundie"... '68 - '73 (Nationwide Search)

Hi All,

A friend just helped me in my search by sending me a link to this site... this certainly looks more fruitful than scanning eBay auctions all day! :)

My lovely wife is in love with the 2002 model and has tasked me with finding her a very nice mechanical/cosmetic example.

She loves the white exterior (Chamonix?) as it is a classic look for these cars, and is a fan of the "roundie" taillights as well. I'm sure she would take a "tii" model, but it would be hard to justify the price premium for a car that we want to simply drive and enjoy.

We are willing to pay for cross-country transport (We're in New England) so this search can take us to places like CA, AZ or NM where true "rust-free" cars still exist.

If anyone has a good lead, or a car to sell that is a "turnkey" vehicle I'd love to hear from you (either on this forum or via email). Although this will be her car, I will be the one tasked with maintenance and repair so I'm motivated to find a solid, reliable car. I've got enough of my own "projects" to keep running!!! :)

Thanks to all....

-Greg

Greg,
Just as an alternative to a year older car that you were looking for, my '74 2002 is a solid example of a car which has had years of TLC, many of which were in New England, and is perfectly rust free with many, many update your wife and you would love.

I have lots of pictures on this link which should have all the pictures (in reverse order) in photobucket site: http://s211.photobucket.com/albums/bb320/wdbarker/?start=all
I'm told the car looks much better in person than in these pictures, which I'll have to agree with as well. Extra info included about my car. Call me anytime if you wish.

>I'm the second owner of this outstanding 1974 2002 (mfg 3/74, vin 4225484). I purchased the car in 1977 from a BMW dealer in Danvers, MA and have owned it for most of its 34 years. The seats, door panels, headliner and sunroof liner are the original light off-white color; the carpet is original charcoal gray and is in excellent condition. Paint work and engine modifications were done professionally in the Boston area although it has spent most of it's time in LA, CA and now OH. It is still a rust free car, extremely enjoyable to drive and is quite fast when you're ready. It is not a daily driver for me now but had been for many years. It has always been garaged, as it is still now, but is taken out to be driven weekly on nice days. This 74 '02 has always proved to be very dependable and though I cannot offer a guarantee, I will mention that I would not hesitate to drive it any distance. We've been across the country several times together! The vehicle is being sold with a clear title. Listed below are most of the major items that have been replaced, upgraded or changed over the years:

- Custom painted by Dicks Auto Body http://www.dicksautobody.com/
-Extensive engine & suspension work by Beaconwood Motors, now Brentwood in MA
- Ungo Box TL-400 alarm w/ 2 internal Pain Generators speakers
- Re-upholstered front & rear seats
- Momo steering wheel - one of the nicest ones around!!
- Dual side draft 40 DGV Weber carbs
- Mechanical advance -008 distributor
- High output coil
- Allison breakerless ignition, lifetime warranty
- 9.5 to 1 compression Malhe pistons
- 305° duration cam
- Polished and ported head
- Electronic fuel pump
- 325i alloy rims with new Sumitomo 195/60R14 tires
- Larger front & rear sway bars
- Bilstien front & rear shocks
- Factory sunroof with wind deflector
- Newly custom installed JVC KD-AR770 FM / CD / USB / IPOD stereo w/ remote
- 2 Boston S-95 6”x9” speakers
- 2 Boston SL-60 6 ½” 2-way speakers with separate tweeters in custom kick panels
- 1 Boston G-1 10” subwoofer

Here is a CA roundie in sahara. Details are sparse in the ad, but it might be worth a call if your wife likes the look of it. The asking price is $5900

Aspire2002,

Thanks for those links!

The search continues..... just saw a nice roundie sell on eBay for $8000. White w/tan interior..... Wish I'd been a little quicker on the mouse button.
