Subject: Nor Cal '02 only track day, any intrest?

I've been approached by a good friend (Fred Freihofner at Wolfgang's in walnut Creek) that races an '02 w/ NASA who is interested in getting a group of '02ers together for an '02 only Track Session or whole day. He's got an "in" at Reno Fernley and we may be able to pull something off at T-Hill too. I might be able to wrangle an '02 only session with HOD??? http://www.hookedondriving.com/home.cfm

I'm guessing we'll need at least 45 cars to pull this off.

Who's game? Moe, Jay Kehoe, Steve K, Sean Casey, Jeff Hecox, Dante Paulazzo, Jan Echevery..... just to name a few...

In the very least we're lookin' at next year for me to join in w/ my red beater...

Assuming it's financially feasible, count me in.

I'll make a 2002 sticker we can put on the back. I'm sure nobody will notice.

Reno Fernley is at about 5000 ft. You may wonder where 15% of your power disappeared to, but it's a nice, laid back track run by some good guys.

OK, so there's definitely enough interest! Wow!

Fred and I are going to do some behind the scenes work and see what we come up with.

With Reno we might be able to get the track to ourselves if we have 45 or more cars. T-Hill would probably take a special run group with another organization.

If any of you out there have some connections let us know.

I'll keep y'all posted!

any ideas on dates? I have BMWCCA schools to attend. But, my Inka should have its CR tranny in for an August event. I am going to make it my track car again. Going to sell my 325is( 1987) as soon as I get pics for craig list and ebay together. Please keep me informed about the 02 only day. Sounds great! Jay

Subject: Here's a possible Jan '09 date 2 T-Hill

Fred has a tentative date with T.E.A.M Racing (http://home.onemain.com/~bonster/) at T-Hill for Fri, Jan 9th. I know , I know it's January with sketchy weather and all. But for a little more money and allot more cars we can have T-Hill to ourselves!

Basically... we can get as many 02's together as we can for Jan 9th where the leftover spaces get filled by mixed make cars OR we get 45-50 cars together and for a little more money we can have a weekday, weekend day, or even a whole weekend of T-Hill to ourselves!?

Can WE get 45-50 of our favorite '02 related Bimmers together???

Well.... here's what Fred sent me after we talked on the phone today...

Quote:
I have a call into my buddy at Fernly, and also I have a call to T-hill to to organize a event for ourselves. But I called Bonnie at Team Racing to ask if she would put on our event and she was ready to help! We have lots of options with her at T-hill. First she has a un-advertised date on friday January the 9th for $160.00 per person. Or if we want to book our own private event it would be $235.00 per person weekday or $265 (for Sat. or Sun.), $500.00 per weekend. We would need 45 -50 cars for a private event. But we would have full control over the entrants and she would still provide instructors.(at the events instructors are allowed to drive their own cars in the open group so there would be some dilution of "blau mit weiss")

She has a great program! It's a ton of track time. She has 20 spaces for novice(which includes instructor per student), 25 intermediate(limited passing zone, no instructors), and advanced(open track!). Last time I ran with her we did half hour sessions revolving the entire day.I think this would be a great way to go. Thinking about things it sounded more fun to be a participant than organizer for both of us! But I'm open to your thoughts and still waiting for a call from the office at T-hill and Fernly.

Let me know what you think,

Fred

It's really happening faster that I thought!

So, let us know what you think.

The Thunderhill thing sounds quite good to me. What are we estimating price-wise?

The price for Jan. the 9th would be $160.00(off season event). To schedule later in the year(T-hills "on season") it would be $235 week day or $265 weekend. The date on the 9th would not be a private event unless we could get 45 to 50 cars before she opens it to the public.

I'll have my beater done (though I'm not sure what it's going to be yet.)

It may take some creative begging on my part to get out there with a newborn and all, but I'd like to go.

I'd be more likely to participate in a single day event.

You'll have to tell me how strict tech will be re: leaks. That's what's always stopped me in the past, but if I clean everything up real nice, I would think the minor ones I have might be okay...

For a Team Racing event you have to self tech your car, there is a form on their website you can download. Get it and go over your car. Any leak dripping from the car is not ok! Brake fluid leaks or cracked brake lines are a RED FLAG! I'm willing to do tech at the shop for free, for the cars that are registered for the event.

I'm interested! I would need a few more details before committing. ...mainly concerning what to expect and if my tii will be up to the task. It's definitely under construction, but making good progress. I've got Bilstein Sports + Eibach Pros all around, all new bushings, lots of new suspension components, and TEP F/R strut tower braces, but it's no where near track spec'd. As for brakes, I figure I'd need to upgrade my rears to E21 drums at a minimum by then.
