So here are some pics of my first 2002. Its a 1975 that I got from the second owner. He has had the car since 77 or 78 and took off all the smog crap as soon as he got it. It has a webber 32/36, a 72 2002 exhaust manifold, and a 008 distributor he got from europe. Other than that It appears to be stock minus the smog stuff. The guy has been a friend of my dads for around 30 years. So I was very happy to get a car from a good friend that I can trust.
I dont really plan on keeping the car stock because Im kind of tired of restoring things to their original condition. However, this leaves me with the problem of what am I going to do to upgrade the car. The car has been sitting in storage for over 10 years so the obvious fluid changes and rubber replacing will be needed. Along with new tires and brakes. Oh yeah, because they guy has had the car in his garage for 10 years rust is not an issue on this car which I am very happy about. There are only a few surface rust spots here and there on the hood and roof of the car. The front fenders have some rust on the bottom but Ill just replace those when I paint the car.
I love watching other people work on their cars here so im happy that I finally have a project blog of my own. I look forward to getting peoples advice on the car. Here are some pics of my new baby. Also, Im throwing in a pic of my vespa and my dad's bugeye since im sure they will be popping up in the background a lot and people will be asking to see them.

Its been a while but I have been busy as hell on the car. I have taken off everything I needed to and then some based on the condition of things and my budget. Now I am finally at the point of being able to put parts back on. A lot of parts on this car are still in great shape so I am just taking them off and cleaning them up. I figure Ill do what I can right now to make the car a really good driver and in a few years, after I have enjoyed the car, Ill do a full resto. Some of the things I have been doing right now are springs, brakes, rust repair, exhuast, getting rid of crap thats not needed and a little bit of upgrading. Here are a few pics of the things I have gotten done recently. Some of the other things we have gotten done are wired up the car for some driving lights, put a manual choke in the steering column, replaced the rubber gas lines and a few other things to straighten up the engine compartment.
My next goals are to take the gas tank out and clean it up, clean up and shorten the front bumper, bleed the brakes, and a lil more rust prevention. I also plan on ordering some Superlites for Christmas. _________________ 1963 Vespa GL

A few things I got done this weekend were getting the speakers installed ( yeah i put speakers in the back and it sounds damn good too ), got some new tires for the newly repainted wheels, and I finally got the car back on the ground. It was a very exciting day. The car has been on stands pretty much the whole time ive owned it. Hell I have not even driven the car yet because of that. I would have taken it out but it was dark by the time we got it on the ground and I dont have any headlights in it so I thought I should wait. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to drive it for the first time. This was a good weekend.

Here are the last of my Christmas goodies showed up this past week. The other things I got but didn't take pictures of are a pertronix, distributor cap and rotor. So now I have everything I need to redo the ignition system. I also want to thank Pierre for the spoiler and for being so helpful.

Yeah thats what I was thinking when I picked out the mats. Also the black makes it look sportier to me.
As for the Kamei I think I am going to leave it black for now. I looks really good with the black wheels and I also have some Hella Blackmagic driving lights to go on the front. I kinda want to go for the badass rally car look so the more black the better in my opinion.

So I finally took the car out on it's first drive since I have owned it and things went well. Especially since I have not really done anything to the engine yet. The drive was mainly to see how the brakes and suspension did and to see if there were any other major issues that needed addressing. Luckily the car stopped and the wheels didn't fall off. I must say it was pretty exciting driving my own 2002 instead of just looking at it in the garage. Now it's time to start working the engine. _________________ 1963 Vespa GL

Nice work!
I too am the third owner of a mid seventies gem, a 76 02, wife named it "Tin Cup" (polaris). I have been busy too with all sorts of upgrades and find we are traveling down similar paths with our cars.
A few questions if you don't mind. Did or are you going to shorten the rear bumper struts? I've been considering it, but ever since seeing another local 02ers web site his 76 did not fair too well after a rear end collision. From that I added a third brake light.
Also, tell me about the down pipe in your pictures. I just ordered the Ireland stainless exhaust and am planning a lovely afternoon under the car and need to replace it soon to. Ireland posts on their web site they are in the throws of fabricating stainless down pipes with the improved clearance for automatics and five speeds transmissions, maybe I'll wait?
With two boys on my heels, two and five, I hope to start a project blog soon. I'm sure they will be in it, they're in everything else!

Well after way to much work, my brother having a stroke and a whole lot of other crap I was finally able to put my car back together today.
I recently put on a Pertronix, spark plugs, Bosch red coil, performance spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, a Nardi steering wheel (thanks CJ), fog light switch in the dash, repainted my gauge cluster, and did a few other things I can't think of.
The car is looking a lot cooler but now but it runs horribly and the engine shakes a lot compared to before. Then again it never ran that great but it is definitely worse. I know I have some timing issues but we can't seem to figure them out nor have we come close to seeing the lil ball on the fly wheel when using a timing light. So we are kinda at a road block as to what to do.
Hopefully some time to think about things and some browsing in the archives will help me sort things out. I may even try to hit up a few local people as well if they feel like lending a hand.
